Leaf Rumours

(1) the biggest mistake in the game by a leafs defenseman, bar none, was the awful no look, between the legs drop pass franson made in his own end early in the first period, which directly led to boston's first goal. not an indictment of franson... young guy, game 7 jitters, he settled down, etc. but that was a much bigger mistake than anything phaneuf did in that game.

(2) phaneuf wasn't even on the ice for the last goal

(3) franson was on the ice for the last goal

That first point is less than significant since I believe Franson followed up by scoring to even it up a minute later.

Second point, true, but the damage had already been done in regulation.

Third point, true, but it was a mistake off of Gardiner, whose panic clear went right to the Bruin skater in front of the net.

Phaneuf and Reimer lost the game, plain and simple. RESULT???? Which AGAIN, I predicted and for this I didn't get the nice compliments I did from the Gauthier call. I called Reimer to be eliminated as our lead guy. And what happened? We got a guy the same age as him. Even the stupidest guy on this board, cannot think there is something very anti-Reimer up top at MLSE? Maybe trying to acquire a used up old goalie from Calgary wasn't enough?

Phaneuf is being shopped everywhere and NO ONE, anywhere, wants him for anything. Why? Because every insider in the NHL knows that he is a turd, a total turd that this board has not figured out yet. The guy is verbotten, much like Grabovksi, who as I said, MIGHT, must MIGHT not get another job in the NHL. He is that disliked for trashing an NHL coach like that.

MLSE feels Phaneuf cost them a ton of money, a TON. They want Franson BADLY. And want to get rid of Phaneuf, BADLY. End of story. Anyone here with ANY NHL connections can confirm this. Easy to confirm.

If they cannot get rid of Phaneuf? They have to trade Franson, and for a bad package. WHY???? Because every NHL player and every NHL agent knows that Franson played for nothing last year, to HELP the Leafs who begged him to come back. So Nonis is basically RIGHT UP against the WALL right now. And every GM in the league knows it.

THE SALIENT POINT???? That everyone on this board has missed? Is why did Nonis get in such a jam? Answer? Its soooo obvious, but not one guy can believe it.

Its because he foolishly thought someone would take Phaneuf's contract on. Wrong. So far.

Or is Dave Nonis the stupidest guy in the world to leave 4 or so million dollars to sign two of his top six players in Franson and Kadri? Are you guys THAT stupid, to think Nonis is THAT stupid. Try to think outside the pyramid guys, it gets a little Fred sometimes around here.

We have our best season in a decade, so the obvious thing to do is ditch our two best players.

Makes sense.

Really weird that team canada didn't notice what a turd dion is, though.

He hasn't made the team in the case of Team Canada, and he hasn't lost Team Canada a game seven yet. And you have not answered the salient point. Who is stupider? You,or Nonis? Do you actually think he meant to end up with 4 or 4.5 million dollars left, to handle Kadri AND Franson's contract.

Like a lot of posters here, instead of admitting that I might be right, you come up with all these silly side games to skirt the real point.

Who is stupid? All the posters here who cannot believe me,that the strategy was, to trade Phaneuf and have 9 million dollars for Kadri and Franson and maybe a cup of coffee on Fridays.

Or Dave Nonis, for thinking two of his top six players, will settle for 4 million between them? Who is STUPID? REALLY?

I want all the guys taking the opposite side of the argument with me here, to explain how a smart GM or even an average one, ends up being in this position? Cause quite frankly, because he CANNOT get rid of Phaneuf without taking another stupid contract in return, he is fawked right now.

Zeke is the slipperiest of all you when he is cornered, but I still want to hear all your best shots.

The only LOGICAL answer is he obviously PLANNED to have at least 7 million bucks or more for these two guys. AT LEAST. How did he end up with 4?

Why is Phaneuf the problem with the cap? How about not signing Clarkson? Oh no, wait. He's the next Wendel, so that's a dumb comment on my part.

The Leafs don't need a dump 6.5 million. Dion should be one of the last options.

Nonis isn't 7 million short teeds.

Yes, teeds, I'M the slippery one.

The leafs only need to clear a couple mil to sign those two, so taking back a bad $4m contract in return for dumping Turdneuf wouldwork just fine.

Game 7 was a fluke.

Any team facing elimination is going to pressure a ton in the dyng minutes. It's not lke they created a ton of good chances, it's just that by some fluke 3 fairly blind shots into traffic all ended up in the back of the net one way or another in a very short time.

It almost never happns, ut sometimes it does.

The last two posters are right; Carlyle has to take a a fair amount of blame. No time out, leaving exhausted players on the ice. Hell, I'll argue we may win that series if Carlyle hadn't power-tripped on Jake and kept him off the starting roster.

And the come-back was a fluke. The very fact that it has never happened before tells us Boston got Lucky. (with a capital L)

I feel people look at salaries and cap to narrowly, there are many dimensions to consider. It's not always about unused cap, it's about cap flexibility.

There's a better chance that all of Phaneuf, Kadri and Franson are playing together in training camp than any of them being traded for the sake of cap-space.

Wow, not really addressing the point at all. Are y'all thinking that Kadri, Phaneuf and Franson are in camp and signed up? Franson is asking for 36 million over five years. How much does that leave Kadri?

I need one question answered. Is everyone here who thinks Phaneuf is a well appreciated (by MLSE) stud, stupid, or is Nonis stupid for not being able to sign Franson and Kadri? But meanwhile signing up Fraser for over a million? And signing up that guys who fights all the time?

Nonis is NOT that stupid, he assumed, wrongly that someone would give him a bit of something of an asset in return for a guy that he mistakenly thought(Phaneuf) was respected around the league.

Problem is, every GM in hockey ain't taking a guy for that price range, if he knows that the guy pusses out in a game seven. Pusses right out.

Its the only explanation for Nonis' position. Only one that makes any sense. And it IS the situation. You homers just cannot believe someone in a blue and a white suit ain't all that.

The only thing Nonis may have misjudged is the market for Liles....nothing to do with Dion.

And I stress may, cause you know, he has time left....

..and that Kadri and Franson are both RFA, so if they want to play - they need to sign.

Let's deem Nonis a dummy if he ends up trading Franson because he can't trade Liles.

As of last week, Nonis had the chance to dump Liles contract and keep all of Phaneuf, Kadri and Franson.

I'd rather believe that the guy who picked Franson as payment for taking on Lombardi's contract knows what he needs to do.

I don't buy Teeds' bullshit for a minute that all of the blame from MLSE goes to Phaneuf. I think they've moved on. If Dion takes a reasonable deal he'll be re-signed.

I suppose if Nonis plays hardball, there's nothing Franson or Kadri can do unless another team's willing to give them an offer sheet. I'd rather he sign them both to reasonable long-term deals, rather than fight tooth and nail to sign them to Subban-style "bridge" contracts.

Better answers. Sorry for challenging you guys that way. But lets face it. Kadri and Franson are very, very key players for this team. And NEITHER of them have to be anywhere close to pleased with the amount of money that was left to sign them.

The smouldering resentment over what is going on right now, can KILL a team, a season, an organization.

How would you feel if you were Kadri and Franson? Appreciated? Nonis is really bent over here, and yes, as MyNameIsJonas has mentioned, Nonis has further complicated things by bungling the Liles situation.

Its not the end of the world, but this is FAR from anywhere near good right now.

And they have tried to keep it quiet, but JackBurton it is not b.s. they are trying to get rid of Phaneuf. Guess what? The marke for bums that blew a game seven 4-1 lead making 6.5 million dollars isn't very high right now, and its not likely to be for a long, long time.

Reimer no longer the number one goalie, CHECK. Gauthier drafted, CHECK.

Phaneuf, goat of game seven, by anyone who watched closely and took off their Luke Schenn pee stained underwear, CHECK.

Franson, goat of goal one in game seven, yes, terrible gaffe. What did he do? He scored two goals to make up for it.
