New York Yankees (2010-2013)

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees selected no one but lost five players in this morning's Rule 5 Draft.

Tommy Kahnle (RHP) - Rockies.
Ravel Santana (OF) - Astros.
Mikey O'Brien (RHP) - Reds.
Felipe Gonzalez (RHP) - Pirates.
Kelvin Castro (RHP) - Marlins.

All but Kahnle, who has to stick in the major leagues or be offered back for $25K, are officially gone from the organization.

Re: New York Yankees

Reports are Omar Infante is looking for a four-year, $40 million deal, while the Yankees have a three-year, $24 million offer on the table.

Re: New York Yankees

Joba Chamberlain has signed with the Tigers and sounds like Boone Logan is heading to the Rockies.

The bullpen will join the rest of the team in looking completely different next season.

Re: New York Yankees

FeinsandNYDN: Source: Carlos Beltran passed his Yankees physical, paving the way for his deal to be finalized. I'd assume a press conference next week.

Re: New York Yankees

Jacoby Ellsbury was formally introduced today at a Yankee Stadium press conference.

He will wear number 22.

Re: New York Yankees

Ken Rosenthal says the Yankees are likely to sign 2B Brian Roberts.

He also notes they still have interest in bringing back 3B Mark Reynolds.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees have agreed to a one-year, $2 million plus incentives deal with Brian Roberts.

The 36-year-old hit .249/.312/.392 (90 wRC+) with 8 HR and 39 RBI in 296 plate appearances for the Orioles in 2013.

Well it's something.
This seems to signal that the Yanks don't like the prices on the trade market and will look to do patchwork at second and third.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees have agreed to a two-year, $7 million deal with LHP Matt Thornton.

The 37-year-old went 0-4 with a 3.74 ERA (4.04 FIP) in 43.1 innings split between the White Sox and Red Sox in 2013.

Here's the much-cheaper replacement for Boone Logan, more of a lefty specialist though, to potentially pair with Cesar Cabral.
Seems like they're grabbing a few lower-cost players so they can go all-in on Masahiro Tanaka.

Re: New York Yankees

The Orioles are closing in on a two-year, $15 million deal with Grant Balfour.

Nice get for them, was kind of hoping the Yankees would bring him in to pair with David Robertson in the late innings.

Re: New York Yankees

Joel Sherman: Yankees have expressed interest in free agent Jeff Baker as right-handed bat that can help at 2B/3B.

.314/.407/.667 (186 wRC+) with 10 HR and 18 RBI in 105 plate appearances against LHP in 2013.

Jeff Passan: Shin-Soo Choo turned down a seven-year, $140M contract from the Yankees, even after Jacoby Ellsbury signed. (LINK)

The Yankees have officially announced the signing of OF Carlos Beltran to a three-year, $45 million deal.

The 36-year-old hit .296/.339/.491 (132 wRC+) with 24 HR and 84 RBI in 600 plate appearances with the Cardinals in 2013.

To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Brett Marshall was designated for assignment.

A big upgrade for the outfield, another middle-of-the-order bat and a switch-hitter to boot. I like it!

Re: New York Yankees

The 25-Man Roster:

Potential Lineup:
1. Jacoby Ellsbury - CF
2. Derek Jeter - SS
3. Carlos Beltran - RF
4. Alfonso Soriano - DH
5. Brian McCann - C
6. Mark Teixeira - 1B
7. Kelly Johnson - 3B
8. Brian Roberts - 2B
9. Brett Gardner - LF

Bench:
Francisco Cervelli - C
Eduardo Nunez - INF
Brendan Ryan - INF
Ichiro Suzuki - OF
Vernon Wells - OF

Rotation:
1. CC Sabathia - LHP
2. Hiroki Kuroda - RHP
3. Ivan Nova - RHP
4. Michael Pineda - RHP
5. David Phelps - RHP

Bullpen:
David Robertson - RHP
Shawn Kelley - RHP
Matt Thornton - LHP
Cesar Cabral - LHP
Adam Warren - RHP
Preston Claiborne - RHP

_____

This is assuming Alex Rodriguez's suspension holds up.

Girardi could get ballsy and bat Gardner 2nd and Jeter 7th, but I'll believe it when I see it.

_____

Upgrades Needed:

• Rotation — expecting at least one starting pitcher to be brought in from the outside.

• Bullpen — could still see a few additions here.

• Right-handed hitting infielder — Jeff Baker and Mark Reynolds have been mentioned as potential suitors.

Re: New York Yankees

Carlos Beltran was formally introduced today at a Yankee Stadium press conference.

He will wear number 36.

Re: New York Yankees

Peter Gammons: Stephen Drew's decision is awaiting some further Yankee clarity.

Guess this means the Yankees are still looking at Drew for a SS/3B role.

Re: New York Yankees

Kevin Kernan: According to industry sources, the Yankees have shown some interest in closer Grant Balfour, whose two-year deal with the Orioles disintegrated. (LINK)

It would be awesome if the Yankees could swoop in and get Balfour on the cheap.
I think Robertson could get the job done closing games, but I wouldn't want to pass up this opportunity of making the bullpen stronger.

Re: New York Yankees

Brett Marshall, designated for assignment on December 19th, was claimed off waivers by the Cubs.

There was hope he could make it through waivers to provide more pitching depth in the minors but this isn't a big loss by any means.

Re: New York Yankees

Yozo Tachinaba, the president of the Rakuten Golden Eagles, said Wednesday morning he will post Tanaka, making the right-hander available to all 30 major league teams.

_____

Mark Feinsand: Source: Tanaka posting will begin Thursday morning and be completed by January 24th at 5:00 pm.

LET THE BIDDING BEGIN!

The Yankees are expected to be big players.

Re: New York Yankees

The Yankees signed INF Yamaico Navarro to a minor-league deal with an invite to big-league camp.

The 26-year-old hit .267/.354/.418 (118 wRC+) with 12 HR and 53 RBI in 452 plate appearances with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in 2013.

He also had 31 plate appearances in the majors, hitting .286/.333/.357 (89 wRC+) with 0 HR and 2 RBI.

UPDATE: The Yankees have sold Navarro's rights to the Samsung Lions in Korea.

Re: New York Yankees

dylanohernandez: Masahiro Tanaka flew to the U.S. today, according to Japanese media reports. Is expected to start meeting with MLB teams in the coming days.

No word yet on when he'll meet with the Yankees.
