Official 2016 NHL Draft Thread

Rumors have the Rangers also in the Stamkos hunt... would need to move salary.

I can't see that happening. The Rangers are dead in the water, and Stamkos wouldn't help that sinking ship. They couldn't afford to surround him with talent. He'd be a fool to go there, if he REALLY wants a Cup. I'm still on board with the rumors that he wants to go to a contender.

3rd round #74 - Hudson Elynuik WHL Spokane 6'5 201 forward

3rd round #75 - Jack LaFontaine Goalie 6'3. Played in NAHL but will be Michigan's starting goalie this coming season

4th round #104 - Max Zimmer LW C USHL 6'0 189 U Wisconsin bound in 17-18 so he will play one more USHL season. Kid has great speed and skating ability

2nd round 43rd overall - Janne Kuokkanen is our 2nd round pick. Played in Finnish junior league..winger 6'1 175. More of a project sounds like he has skills but needs to put on some muscle and learn not to shy away from contact. He will get his shot to play full time with men this year for Karpat...time to make the step up

I like this one. This is the kind of offensive project pick we've shied away from in the past in favor of the darned "all a rounder" type forwards who inevitably develop into 3rd liners at best. If you're going to reach on the projection, better to reach towards a skilled guy who needs to develop the other parts of his game rather than the other way around.

And I'm glad we took a keeper relatively early. We needed another one in the stall.

5th round #134 - Jeremy Helvig another goalie. 6'4. OHL was Kingston's back up.last year...their starter is aging out so this kid will get a chance to play more this coming season. He had great numbers in limited play last year.

6th round #164 - Noah Carroll. D OHL Guelph. 6'1 178...-48 last season

That's a wrap for the Canes. 2 Dmen, 2 Goalies and 5 forwards. 3 college bound kids, 5 CHL kids, 1 Finn Jr.

If Gauthier can keep up...and sticks it allows for some interesting line combinations. Here's what I like:

Skinner Rask Di Guiseppe
Nordstrom Staal Gauthier
Aho Teravainen Lindholm
Bickell Nash/McClement Nestrasil

First Jr. Hurricane picked - Riley Stillman by FLA in round 4

Little Stiller, great for him.
Once upon a time I was asst. coach of a team that had little Wesley, little Stiller and little Lavi. I think it was peewee but may have been squirt.

Lots of folks seem convinced that Riley Nash is coming back. No one wants to try someone else for $1.2 million ish?

cmal, I hear ya, really. It may happen. Lot's of time till the season starts still. I think we may be in play for something else, maybe large. As much as I add fodder to the senseless idea of trading Faulk, it may be something completely different. I really don't see why them getting a right hand shot is so absolute, I just think they would want Faulk more for his proven abilities and experience out of all our guys. And there are other clubs out there who may come knocking for one of our other d prospects offering something we might just want/need.

Remember when you knew it was August because Jeff Daniels was signing a one-year contract? :sarcasm

Riley shares some of the same trusty characteristics that made Jeff such a good utility pocketknife to have. You can pretty much fold out any blade or tool needed.

All things being equal he can fill a lot of roles, particularly if an injury spot needs to be covered. Good PK'er. Wins draws.

I like that it's him or better.

Surprisingly, I think the guy earned another deal as a utility depth forward.

I agree. He kills penalties, is decent in the face off circle and can play wing too. I'd almost rather him than McClement as our 4th line center.
