OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

That's only because Canadians are rarely exposed to violence. You saw how badly people were freaking out about Afghanistan during our operations there.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

those extra 6 bullets made sure the perp was killed dead. I don't see how it was necessary after the first 3 shots brought the kid down. As you watch the video you can see the kid on his back with at least one knee up, and he's moving a little too, which might have sealed his fate. I suspect he may not have eaten 6 more bullets had he just lay there flat and motionless.

I don't normally side with little a$$holes behaving like he did on the bus, but in this instance I do believe this was an unjustified kill.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Huh? How so?

If he is a cop trained under current practices, then I would agree. I will go with the majority of the veterans who are speaking out about it...both in person and on the radio.

I'm sure voyager's experiences would have him booted from any jury that was looking into this...:)
Huh? How so?

How about the fact he works along side these guys every single day and is often on-site when issues happen.

I disagree...there have been other shootings involving police that were quickly accepted as a necessary part of the job. This one has gotten the play due to the very sensationalistic evidence that has found its way online....

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I don't know about you, but I am thrilled that the public is outraged and demanding answers...much better than the general shrugging you see down south when cops gun down people...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having questions. I have my own that i'd like to get answers for.

However there are many in the general public who have no need for questions as they've already formed their conclusions, and based them entirely on limited evidence and preconceived notions that are derived entirely from fictional encounters they've seen on their televisions. This is problematic to say the least, as regardless of what happens all the evidence says, the public will be only happy with a lynching.

Yeah as a trained medic..not as an officer.

I doubt you see too many paramedics being called as expert witnesses in cases involving police directed shootings.

Would you still call it unjustified if the fatal round was the first one fired?

See I feel the public is very restrained and understanding here. Even the family of the kid has called out for understanding of the fine line that these officers tread....no lynching here.

There were some very angry people at the demonstration earlier this week chanting that the cops were murderers. Granted they may have been the vocal minority.
Either way even if it's deemed to be a justified kill, the public won't accept it as many have reached their own conclusions.

If it is deemed a justified kill, that would mean there is some evidence for it...the public will get to hear it and then a reasoned conclusion can be made.

People are upset based solely on the video. And you will always get those crazies who hate the "pigs" at every rally/or public demonstration.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Basically the cops showed up, nothing happens for a bit then BAM:

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I know, voyager...I was responding more to cork's lunacy where he proclaimed you to have the most weight in police matters.
Wow. You really don't think the fact that he works so closely with police officers that this might give him greater insight? Insane.
