OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Yeah I know a couple of my buddies at York and Barrie say the same thing. Crazy. But in this case there was a taser on scene.

I'll be curious to know what time the sergeant got there at. But again it has to do with what the suspect officer saw and what he perceived.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Wow. You really don't think the fact that he works so closely with police officers that this might give him greater insight? Insane.

No I don't. Why would it?

You are making it awkward here...as I don't discount his opinion either...

Because a lot of cops in the U.S have developed a "tase first, ask questions...never" unofficial policy. You either do what they say (whether the request is legal or not) or get tased...and that's not what the police department is for. They're not plantation overseers, they're protectors of the public peace and property. Big, big ****ing difference.

Yep, both most Canadian cops are both better trained, and less inclined to go squirelly. I'd be very interested in a test program with someone like the OPP and tasers.

I hate when we make decisions based on what happens in the United States.

Interestingly enough, First Nations Police all carry tasers.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

those extra 6 bullets made sure the perp was killed dead. I don't see how it was necessary after the first 3 shots brought the kid down. As you watch the video you can see the kid on his back with at least one knee up, and he's moving a little too, which might have sealed his fate. I suspect he may not have eaten 6 more bullets had he just lay there flat and motionless.

I don't normally side with little a$$holes behaving like he did on the bus, but in this instance I do believe this was an unjustified kill.

weird how the boston bomber was taken alive but this kid wasnt

sure it might have been the best of the best there but there was legit reason to think he would have bombs, guns, etc

i would also like to know what other incidents happened with this officer

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I think it's fairly obvious that he will be deemed psychologically unfit to be a cop moving forward.

Frankly, i'm surprised he passed that test to being with. It's quite thorough.

Agreed, I'm just saying why the public is against Cops having tasers as standard equipment. It's far too easy for an officer to not bother using communication as his first and most important conflict resolution tool, when he knows he has a non lethal option on his hip. They're turned into overseer whips in the U.S in just the handful of years they've been in use, and the blue wall of silence keeps a lot of the cops misusing them from being punished for it.

And the recent example in Montreal, where bullets were fired at the police.

Meh, the socities are similar enough that some inferences can be drawn from their actions. It's a big deal for a cop in Canada to unholster their weapon, as long as a similar level of oversight was there for the unholstering of a taser, I'd be much less resistant to the idea. We really need to watch out that it doesn't become a similar tool to how it's used in the U.S, basically a ****ing cattle prod.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. This has gotten weird.

You know exactly what he's talking about.

I know a few people that should have failed but passed. Hell one of the profs in the ciriminal justice program told him to find another career path.
