OT: American Politics

It's a direct result of one half of the government directly trying to sabotage its own democracy for the past generation or two. A party that quite literally has been working to undermine the will of the people and enforce oligarchal rule.

An inevitable result, really. Trump is just a symptom.

@realDonaldTrump
The FAKE MSM is working so hard trying to get me not to use Social Media. They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out.

lol. the media loves his tweets as it provides easy stories for days.

I really dont understand why no one is making this a big deal.

Russia who had dnc voter lists were trying to hack voter registration rolls.

In states with strict voter ID laws they could have removed thousands of likely democrat voters just by changing a letter of their name.

There is no proof they did... but they had the tools to rig an election at their disposal. Shouldn't we be asking if they successfully hacked any states?

Eventually, one of these will stick

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

So to date, Trudeau and Co. have been largely punting the topic of the underfunding of the Canadian Military down the road. No new money in the last two budgets for example.

Word was wait for the defense policy review before making any decision on whether or not the LPC was going to officially rust out the CAF.

Then word was wait for the Chrystia Freeland's foreign policy speech today to get a feel for how the Defense Policy review would go tomorrow.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/freeland-foreign-policy-speech-1.4147672
Freeland's speech comes the day before Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan is set to release a comprehensive roadmap for Canada's military. She said Canada can't get a free ride from the U.S. simply because of our geography, warning that Canada can't rely on its neighbour for military power and protection.

"To rely solely on the U.S. security umbrella would make us a client state. And although we have an incredibly good relationship with our American friends and neighbours, such a dependence would not be in Canada's interest," she said.

Hinting that tomorrow's defence plan will make significant investments and make Canadians "justly proud," Freeland stressed the need for a robust, well-funded professional military that is ready, trained and equipped to go to battle when needed.

"To put it plainly: Canadian diplomacy and development sometimes require the backing of hard power," she said. "Force is, of course, always a last resort. But the principled use of force, together with our allies and governed by international law, is part of our history and must be part of our future. To have that capacity requires a substantial investment, which this government is committed to making."

On top of that,

Canadian Forces personnel will receive an increase of over 6% to pay and around 5% to some environmental and special allowances, according to the Department of National Defence. Military personnel will be paid at these new rates along with a lump sum back-payment starting June 30, 2017. This covers retroactive increases starting April 1, 2014 calculated as follows:
•four 1.25% increases in pay and allowances effective April 1 for the past four fiscal years: 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018 and
•one 1.2% Military Factor pay increase effective April 1, 2016.

Those receiving the pay raise include Non-Commissioned Members, General Service Officers and Pilots at the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and Commander and below, and all Medical and Dental Officers. The pay rates for Colonels and Captains (Navy) and above, and all Legal Officers, are managed separately, the DND noted.

Pay rates were last increased effective April 1, 2013.

Allowances that are increasing include all Environmental Allowances, Special Operations Assaulter Allowance, Submarine Crewing Allowance, Stress Allowance for Test Participants, and Special Allowance Canadian Forces Station Alert.

These pay and allowance increases align with tentative increases for other federal employees, according to the DND.

Yes, I did get my pay raise.

you're welcome

So with the USA retreating from the global stage, and as most people have been saying, giving up it's leadership of the free world, something pleasant has been happening.

France and Germany are taking the lead in Europe on matters like the economy and the environment, all the while increasing their defense spending. Not in order to be able to help the USA, but to be able to operate independently of it.

And now Canada has decided to do the same.

Canada will seek to play a larger role on the world stage as the United States retreats, Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday, in remarks underscoring strains between Washington and its closest allies.

Freeland spoke in the wake of recent NATO and G7 summits where U.S. President Donald Trump upset world leaders to such an extent that German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed doubts about the reliability of the United States.

Freeland, noting that "international relationships that had seemed immutable for 70 years are being called into question," stressed the value of bilateral ties with the United States, traditionally seen as Canada's closest friend. She also made clear those bonds might loosen.

"The fact that our friend and ally has come to question the very worth of its mantle of global leadership, puts into sharper focus the need for the rest of us to set our own clear and sovereign course," she said in an address to parliament outlining her foreign policy vision.
So my one reason for liking trump is coming to fruition. Across the west, governments are stepping up as the USA is backing off, countries increasing their defense capabilities as it's clear the USA cannot be counted on to support them, and as a whole, other western countries are taking a leadership position in the world where as before it was simply the US running the show.

Note that it's not China or Russia stepping into the void left by the USA as it turns inward, it's other western countries picking up the slack.

In 4-8 years, when the USA is hopefully ready to re-engage in global affairs, it will find a western world more able to act independently and confidently.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Oh, I'm sorry? What did you do again?

Did you contact your local MP and write to them about this?

Did you tell the people who call asking for money that they wont see a dime from you until the promise to invest in the forces?

Did you go to town halls and make a fuss about how the liberals promised to fix the problems plaguing the forces but to date haven't done sweet **** all?

Did you bring it up online on forum boards, social media and among friends and family to raise awareness on how everyone was dropping the ball at a time where the LPC wants to send troops overseas?

You're welcome...screw you.

Wow, you're an *******. A little unhinged for someone we trust with weaponry.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Was thinking the same thing. Pretty delicate. God help us if the enemy makes a mom joke.

I have a completely off topic question which I am opening up to all of you here.

I got into an argument with somebody on Facebook yesterday because she was gushing all over Melania Trump and how much she liked her. I posted a comment about how Melania is an enabler of Donald and not an innocent victim in all of this. I said she is much like the rest of the Trump family in that she is trying to cash in while Donald is in office. The reason I said that was because she is involved in a lawsuit with a newspaper where her own lawyer says the newspaper is doing damage to Melania's potential earnings as first lady which they estimate as 150 million dollars.

Next thing I know this girl and all of her hard left NDP buddies are calling me a victim bashing POS. Yeah, it escalated quickly.

Seems like they feel that Melania is a victim in all of this and that Donald abuses her (verbally). So basically, if you do not think she is an abuse victim then you are a victim basher. The girl I was talking to initially said that I must hate sex worker who marry for money.

The whole conversation when nuts and I bowed out because there was no winning with this crowd.

Anyways, I was curious what you all thought. Is Melania a victim or is she an enabler?
Don't argue on FB.
