Boring is probably a bad term, but I'm struggling to find a word here that properly reflects my feelings about the film. It's a great film, I know it's a great film, but it's hard to watch and enjoy for me...

Never been averse to giving movies a second or third shot though. I'll wait a couple of weeks and then give it another fair chance.

And that's just not an important part of the film at all. The scene that people remember glorifies warfare while the film is at its heart a uniformly anti-war piece.

doesn't really glorify war - it mocks the glorification of war.

Robert Duvall is a pure hollow man buffon, and there's guys surfing the waves as they bomb the hell out of those kids.

I really recommend Generation Kill if anyone wants to watch a film lambasting the incompetence of commanding officers and the general grunts' feelings about them.

I watched Apocalypse Now for an English essay I did comparing it to Heart of Darkness. I enjoyed it.

Scorcese is my favourite, but yeah, if you are going by top 3 no one compares to Coppola.

No love for Nolan though? Momento, Dark Knight, Inception, The Prestige.

Memento is a pretty bloody outstanding film. Guy Pearce at his best. Great, unique storyline, and a satisfying conclusion to tie everything together perfectly.

I've become a big fan of Christopher Nolan. I think Spielberg might be my favourite director overall though.

Spielberg is definitely the best when it comes to the blockbuster, I don't think anyone can deny that. His films probably have the most broad appeal out of any director on that list.

For Eastwood, Gran Torino and especially Letters from Iwo Jima (between Flags of Our Fathers and LFIJ, the latter is superior), are both really outstanding directorial accomplishments. Especially at his age.

ah, that explains it.

that's like an entire extra hour of scenes that all deserved to be cut. the french plantation scene is especially excruciating.

too bad, watching that one first might have ruined the movie for you forever. but maybe not.
