OT: Soccer thread

@Montana people seem to be raving about this kid. Only 18.

Good shout, I wasn’t aware of him but he’s got VDV size, and shades of Toby when pinging it downfield. He does look like a gem.

Dane Scarlett plays for the U21’s as well, so think I will make an effort to catch some of their games.

£50m would be outrageous….I don’t even think he’s worth £40m…but it does sound like we’ll be sending them one of Davinson Sanchez, or Bryan Gil to offset some of the cost, and if Postecoglou wants him, and views him as a particularly ideal fit for his system (his speed & dribbling is perfect for RW, and maybe as a Maddison backup in midfield)…..you gotta go get him.

Still only 22, and thus far he has shown continued upward progression every step of the way.

makes me feel much much better about Serie A"s chances when the premier league teams keep throwing away their financial advantages with ludicrous valuations like this.

…and now Brentford have made a club record £40m offer for Brennan Johnson, in the hopes of scooping Tottenham, lol.

At least it’s a team known for having a great analytics/scouting department….but I still don’t get it personally.

…and now they’re shifting focus.

So I figure (a) Brennan Johnson wants Tottenham, (b) has already, or is close to agreeing to a new long term contract with us, and (c) our offer is close enough to Brentford’s that Forrest is confident in finding a deal.

I don’t mind that he gets a good payday, that was inevitable.

Canada should be able to find someone good to coach an exciting group (in attack anyway) that is already qualified for the WC.

TFC, on the other hand, can continue to suck donkey balls.

It just shows that the CSA is inept and I would bet that either biello or bobby symernotis are the next coaches. I've heard the locker room is divided between the young and marketable and the older guard. Giving up a home world cup, Copa America etc. To go to a non top 5 league coaching gig is shameful. Canada soccer business and CPL are and will continue to be the downfall of Canadian soccer.

TFC: I don't think herdmans brotherhood and mentality coaching is a sustainable way to go... think the overly positive version of torts.

Spurs News for Deck

- We’ve rejected Rennes €9m offer for Davinson Sanchez, we want €15-20m. Sounding like we’ll keep him for CB depth, as he’s a better fit with Ange than he was under Conte or Mourinho.

- We offered Davinson + £20m for Brennen Johnson earlier in the window.

- Djed Spence is off to Leeds on loan….£1m loan fee, and they’ll be covering his full wages.

- Eric Dier has been offered to FC Bayern, their board is considering whether to make an offer or not.

- Growing confidence a Brennan Johnson deal will get done, likely to end up in the £45m range, with add-ons, etc.

- as a potential backup plan to Johnson, Tottenham have been circling Sporting winger Marcus Edwards, as we own a ~35% sell-on clause for him, so could buy at a discount ostensibly. (Like Johnson he’d also count as homegrown, for squad numbers)….but Chelsea are also showing interest in him.

- United and Athletico both showing interest in Hojbjerg, and he’s keen to move on if he’s not going to be part of the starting XI. Believe we’re asking €30m for him.

- Giovani Lo Celso unlikely to be moved now, as Ange has brought him back into the fold as a key rotation member of the squad, and he wishes to stick around.

- we made a bid for Metz forward Georges Mikautadze (22) who was just sold to Ajax for €20m. Sounds like he chose Ajax over us, due to playing time concerns.

- and last but not least, our third kits will be unveiled tonight Vs Fulham in the Carabao Cup.

yeah him leaving now with the WC coming up is a big red flag for CSA. Shame to see soccer flailing about in this country because we have the talent. As for TFC that is an easier fix...tons of players out there who can boss a third rate league. Think they need a better GM, tbh.

Pavard transfer finally comes through for Inter.

After a surprisingly dramatic summer for a CL finalist, I think in the end Inter comes out an even better squad this year. Younger and more complete starting squad with a much deeper bench.

Seems like Inter actually got a bit lucky though - they seemed dead set on wasting a ton of money on a questionable striker like Lukaku or Balogan, but both priced themselves out and I'm pretty happy about that.

The big risk is in net, as Onana was awesome last year and old Sommer is just ok. Then again Onana is a risky keeper and Inter's solid system may have made him look more solid than he is - he's off to a rough rough start for ManU, who are a much shakier defensive squad. I'm guessing Inter still tries to find a good young keeper in the midseason transfer window.....but other than that the squad looks very complete.

Postecoglou has left him out of tonight’s squad as well, just to hammer home that he’s not part of his plans.

@Deckie007 DaZN carries the Carabao Cup in Canada, if you have it and want to watch Tottenham-Fulham at 2:45pm est.
