OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

I did not see that coming in the first few months of the season.

I had some qualms with style of play and saw a few of the chinks in the armour, but even I didn't expect them to fall apart like this. They play one of the worst "systems" I've ever seen from a playoff calibre NBA team. It's basically exterior dribble to find the first open shooter and a chuck with some DD dribble iso's and a rare post up thrown in. It's ****ing shameful.

Defensively they give away way too many 2nd chances, and don't defend the dribble well.

@M.E.
I saw some of that, especially on D but I guess I didn't foresee no adjustments on either side of the ball.

If Casey is shown the door, who would we be looking at for a replacement?

Any legit NBA coach really. We've been settling for too many assistant coaches with zero track record in Toronto, time to get a legit coach, and a team coming off of back to back playoff appearances can do that.

Lenny Wilkens is still the only real NBA coach we've had. Everyone else was a guy much better suited to the assistant chair.

Some of the guys available? George Karl would be my favourite of the group, JVG probably the 2nd pick. The rest of the guys currently available are Mark Jackson (who has a Raptors connection) and Avery Johnson.

I think we need a guy with a **** ton of coaching experience, and a history of strong systems and in game rotation management.

That was one shit game.

Washington is a shit matchup for us. That front court eats ours. If we can't make jumpshots we are f*cked. Not sure what they will do in the offseason. I don't completely blame Casey but his in-game management is suspect at best. We really needed Terrence Ross to take a step forward this year and he's done nothing of the sort.

James Johnson has been a dud since 10 games into the beginning of the season. All the tools and clearly no toolbox. More concern for the lifestyle than the actual game. Can't blame the guy as that would probably be me as well with that kind of dough.

How about anyone from the San Antonio Popovich tree?

Bryan Shaw?

I feel like he got fired and got a raw deal.

I think we need experienced...seen it all, done it all, knows how to handle the in game chess match, knows how to prepare a club for the long haul of a 82 game sched + playoff match ups. If Masai finds someone with a pedigree that isn't a "George Karl" from Pops' program or elsewhere...cool, I don't know the assistants of the league well enough to know who is the next great NBA coaching mind....but Casey was that guy when got him, was allegedly a genius with zone defences...I don't think I saw us run zone all ****ing year and he's worse than useless with his offensive systems.

Our next coach is extremely important to the direction of this club and another coaching flop would set us back a bunch of years and probably lead to a dismantling of this group and a restart of the rebuilding treadmill.
