OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Great pickup. They really needed a couple of reliable bullpen arms (IMO more than anything else) and they definitely filled those holes with Oliver and Frasor.

great pick up. frasor is a known entity who is worth his contract.

i obviously haven't seen either pitch but it looks like all it cost the jays was a nothing prospect (webb) and a pretty average pitching prospect in jaye..

I really hope this doesnt mean we're no longer after a starter.

AA has always said he's looking for bullpen help. This move will have no barring on AA's choice to go after another starter or not. Finances might hinder us now, but no one really knows whats going on with that anyway.

Frasor is a solid BP arm. Good week for the Jays.

Awesome move getting Frasor back and more importantly he is someone who has a long-standing relationship with this organization dating back to 2004 and has a great relationship with the city. You always want to have as many people as possible who want to be here.

Should give us even more options as far as reliable seventh and eighth inning relievers are concerned.

Definitely looking like a much stronger bullpen than last year. Now the Jays are just a #2/3 starter and a #4-5 hitter away from being a true contender.

well, era isn't necessarily the best stat to look at for relievers.

but, he doesn't give up a lot of hits (.237 baa over his career), and while his walk rate isn't great, his k rate is quite good.

so, basically, he doesn't give up a lot of hits, and even though he walks guys he has the ability to make hitters miss.

is he a great reliever? no. but i think people overestimate how easy it is to find reliable bullpen arms, which frasor is. he's steady.. like jays said, a good 7th or 8th inning guy who has proven that he can serve as a decent backup closing option (in 04 and 09 -- the only two years in his career he was used as a closer for etzended periods -- he is 28/33, which isn't great but isn't bad either).

i like the pick up. they got a solid reliever for shit all.

Well obviously you want to look at how many inherited runs a reliever allows to score because their primary goal much of of the time is coming into situations in which the previous reliever left numerous men on-base in late situations. Frasor compares favourably in this regard.

In his career he has only allowed 27% of inherited runners to come around to score. Anything under 35% as a reliever and you're generally sitting pretty so he has been effective at getting out of tight situations, and like msun alluded to he has a low walk rate and can strikeout guys when required.

Nice to see Frasor back. It will be like old times for him. And like JCY mentioned, nice to have a player that wants to play here.

Frasor's just a good, solid reliever.

You don't want to have to put him in the highest leverage situations but as the 4th or 5th arm out of the 'pen an arm as good as that is a luxury.
