OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

in fact, romero's walk totals were outstanding until he got to aa.

looks like there's either a coaching or ball park issue there that probably messes with these guys mentally.

based on what i've heard about the new minor league park in LV, we pretty much can't put any weight on jays prospects aaa pitching numbers any more, either.

maybe the same thing's going on in new hampshire (although cecil, mills and litsch managed fine).

yeah, but even when Purcey was struggling he was still King plenty. Romero wasn't, and that's why his struggles were even more worrisome - indicating his stuff just wasn't that good.

but let's see what happens - I know I'm much more confident in Purcey going in to this one - he was damn impressive in a number of outings last year, showed that he was clearly too good for AAA....and has been very good all spring this year.

but I'm also hopeful for Romero.

Alright ladies, the season starts tonight. Doc faces the Tigers, who will give Justin Verlander the opening night start. After high expectations to start last season (followed by an 0-7 start) expectations for Detroit are tempered somewhat, although they are still expected to compete for the crown in the Central. We all know what everybody is expecting of the Blue Jays this year, so let's go out and prove 'em wrong.

(If I recall correctly) the last time Doc faced the Tigers was on opening day in 2004 when he got tagged for 7 runs. However, his overall career numbers against Detroit are staggering: 15 GP (14 starts) 11-2 1.93 ERA and only 9 walks in 112 IP. He has also pitched more complete games (6) and shutouts (4 of the 11 in his career) against Detroit than any other team in baseball.

Alright boys these mother****ers on Sportsnet have the garbage Habs-Sens game on over the ****ing Opening Day Jays game. Absolute travesty. If it was game two I can understand but it's the opening bloody game! Anyone have a feed?

I loved what we just saw from Overbay. Wells capitalized on a pitch up in the zone and Lind's wasn't a well-hit ball. But Overbay hit a good pitch, and the same type of pitch (outside, moving away from him) that gave him fits last year. He was locked in and made good contact on the ball. That was extremely, extremely encouraging, IMO. They need him to step up, because the past two years have been abysmal (relative to what should reasonably be expected from him).

Crdit should go to Rios on the Wells AB too, his jumpiness on the bases caused the fastball

Just put Campbell on Mute. He put the pitch up in the zone, it had nothign to do with Rios. If that was a breaking pitch Wells hits a home run there.
