OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Had a big Mac for the first time ever a few years ago. Don't get the hype. Mrs. Preston and I can process way better burgers with minimal effort (it's a quick and easy meal really). Don't get the appeal of fast food unless you're out and about.

If it wasn’t so full of salt and fat I could eat it every day. Well, maybe not every day, but once or twice a week. The biggest problem with burger chain fast food is that what was once a cheap meal has become so expensive.

Meh. If I'm going to have a burger I prefer making it count and having a super elite one that I process from scratch. I don't have them often enough to skimp on quality. But that's just me.

See I don’t necessarily consider a burger bad. I avoid them except for my once a week treat because of the bread. But a burger at a restaurant is just like any other food to me, though a burger from McDonald’s is “bad” because lord knows what’s in there. So to me fast food isn’t about whether I can make the same thing at home better, it’s just the junk food experience. Because even though a home made burger is better, it’s still different than the fast food burger which is satisfying in its own right.

And only within the last couple of years. Previously would get the filet o fish meal (plain) at McDonald’s for like $4-$5, now its like $9.

I don’t know how old everyone is but i will warn you about fast food and age. The older you get the worse it affects you so you should get into a healthier frame of mind.

Too many fast food aficionados here.

How did it affect you? I really don’t see an issue with fast food 1x or 2x per week. Not five burgers in a sitting, of course, but just a basic meal.

Yeah it's all about portion control and how you eat outside of those trips really. I know plenty of older folks who eat fast food pretty regularly and maintain a decent weight. I've got some junk food guilty pleasures as well but it's not like I eat them often.

When your metabolism slows it’s harder to keep that crap from affecting your lipid levels and weight. It’s really not good for you. It’s there for marginal sustenance when you don’t have time to eat properly.

It's frittata day!

8 pasture eggs
Piles of pasture bacon
Heavy cream
Old cheddar
Bunch of baby kale
Red pepper
Onion
Garlic
(usually add mushroom but don't have none today)

Big cast iron pan, medium heat. Fry bacon until not quite crispy. Turn down heat a tad. Sautee veggies in bacon fat. Turn off heat once veggies tender. Beat the shit outta the eggs and add 'em. A glug or two of the heavy cream. Lotsa grated cheddar. Chop up bacon and sprinkle throughout. Stick under the broiler until lightly browned on top. Delicious and healthy.

It’s take out day and I’m doing West Indian food. There’s a place in Markham I’m going to try. Chicken roti and some doubles and something else for later.

Hardly, there's piles of science to back it up.

The key is to balance the omega 3s and 6s in your fats. This means restricting your cooking oils to olive, avocado, coconut and a few others and eating grass fed meats (the grass feeding ups the omega 3 content in the animal fat) wherever possible.

I was referring to your cooking “oil” of bacon fat. While absolutely delicious, my ass it’s healthy for your heart.
