Pearson's injury is potentially less serious than feared, but we'll see. Giles has the same injury and has been out for about a month now. Still need to hear more about Thornton, but it does not sound good as he's getting a second opinion from Dr. Andrews. Shoemaker is basically at his expected innings total anyway (25.2 this year, 28.2 in 2019, 31.0 in 2018). Hopefully he can come back in September. If he does, I hope they put him in the bullpen. Maybe Pearson as well since he likely won't have time to stretch out. Shoemaker, Pearson, Giles, Romano and Borucki would be a dominant pen in a short series. No rotation though.
Vogelbach is a strange, but interesting addition. He seems a bit redundant with Rowdy in the fold, but he has a better minor league track record and at least a short period of success in MLB. He has good plate discipline, so I think he's worth a shot. Perhaps the book is out on Vogelbach and he is finished or maybe he can be a useful piece with some tinkering.
