OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

If you can't enjoy 1st place in august tho

...it means that you don't believe the team is actually good and are waiting for them to slip because "1st in August" might not be the best measure of whether they're actually good or not?

I mean, it's nice that the division is an uncharacteristic clown show this year and an ALE banner is an ALE banner but if they win ~91 games and that wins a division that usually requires high 90's or more to win it, meh.

I remember the arguments made in 2015 when the team was a ~.500 team with one of the best run diffs in baseball and we were waiting for the correction. I'm not going to get on the other side of that argument now when they're probably 5 games ahead of where they "should" be.

So whatever, clown away at the fact I don't believe in this team.

Jays win world series

ME: but did they really deserve it? Here's why it was lucky and why this won't be replicated.

I seem to remember this particular cocksucker ignoring that the Leafs were in 1st in their division last year and pointing out that the analytics suggested that they weren't actually that good and that we should all temper our expectations of them too.

This disingenuous, hypocriticial, mother dresses him funny, goofy looking motherfucker.

Wait you actually think run differential is the best measure of a team?

For me, what makes this team different is probably the team chemistry that is just explosive, and also the fact that not only are the best players leading the way (Vladdy, Bo, Springer - basically everyone that's supposed to be our best, has been, with no disappointments), but you have an array of contributions coming from an assortment of categories. Like young guys (Barger, Loperfido, Fluharty, Schneider), guys out of nowhere stepping up consistently (Lukes, Clement, Lauer, Varland), journeymen becoming key depth (Heinemen), rotation full of vet battler types (Bassitt, Gausman, Scherzer). And Bieber still to come, who might literally be the ace of the staff and hasn't played one game for us yet.

That was a real shitty two games, and then a gritty character win in the third one that was one base hit away from being a loss and a sweep, but I definitely feel this team has infinitely more potential than any other in the past decade, and a few of those were pretty good. If you're an optimist, there's a lot to like here.

The MLB draft is pretty cool the way that there are a ton of high end prospects to go around for everyone each year, so it's never like the NHL where you can strike out on all of your picks and get nothing out of a draft.

So you always have exciting young players in the pipeline on their ways to the bigs, unlike our situation with the Leafs currently where we sort of have nothing much to look forward to other than Cowan, other than some dark horses.

The Hockey talent pool sucks because 99% of the planet will never put on a pair of skates
