OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

One big difference with baseball is you can’t trade draft picks so every year, every team re-stocks every year. International signing is the other.

Imagine hockey but you can’t trade draft picks and anyone who isn’t from North America is a free agent as of 16. It’s a flawed but wonderful system.

With Ty France hitting, and Joey Loperfido sitting vs a RHP today, i suspect it's Joey who gets sent down when Springer gets back. He and Lukes play the same role.

They probably like Straw too much

every team has a backup CF, and a backup SS, in case of injury. But of course Varsho never misses time, right?

why would you DFA Straw when you can send Loperfido down and call him back up in 2 weeks when rosters expand?

Yeah this, and Loperfido and Lukes pretty much do the same job, except Joey looks better vs LHP, which shouldn't matter but considering our RHH ( Straw) stink, it maybe should.

Ideally they would have got a 3B/OF RHH that could play, but they didnt and France has earned his spot so far, so i think they option Loperfido.

Sending down Loperfido (who is possibly the team’s best hitter right now) so that you can keep your preferred backup CF on the bench would be an odd message to send to a team in first place. Straw isn’t at risk of being pickup up on waivers because he makes $7M to be a backup CF, and I’m sure if you tell him he’ll be back up in September, he probably won’t elect free agency. Rosters expand in less than three weeks. Could probably send Straw down for a two week conditioning assigment anyway. Nothing to get agitated about.
