I don't agree with that. Especially Joana. She's a badass and objectively a great fighter. I don't think you can just throw in some random 18 year old kid against her.
I didn't say random (I'm not owning Johnny's couch potato comment). But a trained 18 yr old? Yeah, absolutely. In pretty much every physical endeavor, a trained 18 yr old man will match or dominate an elite woman. We see it in hockey where the Canadian woman's team trains against (and holds there own, but is no better than) a midget AAA boys team. Track, where 53 times in California high school competition has a male sprinter beat the woman's current world record of 10.49, strength sports like shot put, where the junior record is held by a 16 yr old at 22.31m...just shy of the female world record of 22.51m...which sounds impressive but the boys record is with a 6kg shot, and the woman's record with a 4 kg...the same kid holds the 5kg record as well, at 24.45m
This is a really common theme around sports, where high end 16 yr old match or better elite women in nearly every event. Why would combat sports (where the differences in physiology actually matter for more) be any different?
If we're talking about a trained woman vs an untrained 18 yr old kid of similar weight, sure, but the difference there is trained vs untrained, not man vs woman. You take a 17-18 yr old who trains MMA, maybe a a really good bluebelt at BJJ with some solid kickboxing thrown in and he'd mangle a top woman of similar size.
Personally I like watching the womens fights. They typically go for it, and dont have those grappling, wrestling snooze fests.
Fair, though that's a direct consequence of the lack of power of their opponents. They can afford to be a lot looser defensively and just go for it, because you're not going to run into too many women who can scramble your brains with one shot
I also can't agree that the power a fighter packs compared to other genders/weight classes matters to the quality of the fight. Just look at Mighty Mouse. He's small, he doesn't knock people out, but he is a great fighting and entertaining as ****. Arguably the best.
Johnson is small, but he's blazing fast, and ridiculously strong for his size. He easily tosses other fighters around with throws and slams, crazy fast combinations with hands and feet. That's entertaining.
