OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Couldn't you say the same for a Heavyweight destroying a Flyweight? Would a flyweight really have a shot?

Sure...a 125 pound fighter has about the same chance against a 260 pound fighter as a an elite 125 pound female fighter has against a 125 pound trained but non competing man, I agree

Not sure if that was your point though

I don't agree with that. Especially Joana. She's a badass and objectively a great fighter. I don't think you can just throw in some random 18 year old kid against her.

Personally I like watching the womens fights. They typically go for it, and dont have those grappling, wrestling snooze fests. They had to fight so hard to get any sort of attention and that translates to their fights.

I also can't agree that the power a fighter packs compared to other genders/weight classes matters to the quality of the fight. Just look at Mighty Mouse. He's small, he doesn't knock people out, but he is a great fighting and entertaining as ****. Arguably the best.

I didn't say random (I'm not owning Johnny's couch potato comment). But a trained 18 yr old? Yeah, absolutely. In pretty much every physical endeavor, a trained 18 yr old man will match or dominate an elite woman. We see it in hockey where the Canadian woman's team trains against (and holds there own, but is no better than) a midget AAA boys team. Track, where 53 times in California high school competition has a male sprinter beat the woman's current world record of 10.49, strength sports like shot put, where the junior record is held by a 16 yr old at 22.31m...just shy of the female world record of 22.51m...which sounds impressive but the boys record is with a 6kg shot, and the woman's record with a 4 kg...the same kid holds the 5kg record as well, at 24.45m

This is a really common theme around sports, where high end 16 yr old match or better elite women in nearly every event. Why would combat sports (where the differences in physiology actually matter for more) be any different?

If we're talking about a trained woman vs an untrained 18 yr old kid of similar weight, sure, but the difference there is trained vs untrained, not man vs woman. You take a 17-18 yr old who trains MMA, maybe a a really good bluebelt at BJJ with some solid kickboxing thrown in and he'd mangle a top woman of similar size.

Fair, though that's a direct consequence of the lack of power of their opponents. They can afford to be a lot looser defensively and just go for it, because you're not going to run into too many women who can scramble your brains with one shot

Johnson is small, but he's blazing fast, and ridiculously strong for his size. He easily tosses other fighters around with throws and slams, crazy fast combinations with hands and feet. That's entertaining.

I think the point of comparing flyweights to heavyweights is to say. Yeah I know these aren't the top two fighters in the world... but this is a hell of a fight.

Just like watching the #20 and #22 ranked lightweight guys fight each other. You know neither one has a real shot against McGregor... but it can still be a great fight.

yeah but there's a massive difference between the speed and ability of the 20th and 22nd ranked men and elite women. Elite women is like watching teenage boys in speed, strength, etc. They'd probably swing for the fences a lot too.

I love the world juniors at xmas time though

Absolutely. But do you watch the Telus Cup when it's on? WJHC is a lot closer to NHL quality than elite women's fighters are to elite men's fighters.
Which one is the telus cup?

I used to watch the Mac's Midget tourney

The only good woman's fight was the one where Rousey got head kicked on to queer street.

The notion that she could take on Mayweather, or any male fighter was absurd.

I like some of the women fights. Not all but i'll for sure be watching the next Rousey fight. Joanna is one of the my fav fighters. Girl is nasty.

If Nunes can stuff the TD she will walk through her. Although this striking technique could be dangerous

Thats why Holm walked through her. She scrambled to get out of the arm bar attempt and Rousey thought she was good enough to box with her.

Yeah, Holm is pretty much the best women's kickboxer on the planet...rousey read too many press clippings about the type of buzz saw she was.

Holm vs Cyborg would be a good fight.

I actually can't wait for the Rousey - Nunes fight. My money would be on Rousey.
