OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

I don't know if it would be more humane if Lomachenko had fight ending power or not. But yeah, his defensive work and punch accuracy is off the charts.

Ya not quite fight ending power but he does damage. Will be interesting to see how he's able to adjust moving up weight classes. It won't be easy for him since he's already pushing 30. But he needs to get into the 145 range to see real comp.

As slick as he is, most guys who make successful (and dominant) moves through multiple weight classes start off at their lower weights with world destroying power. Lomachenko is as slick as anyone I've ever seen and could probably just purely box his way to a lot of 12 round decisions on the way to titles at 135 and maybe 140...but the more you move up, without power, the more that turns into walking a tight rope. Sooner or later, someone who has to cut 10-15 pounds to get to the weight you walk around at, is going to catch you with something heavy.

He could clean out 135 though, Garcia getting lucky with a clean shot is the only speed bump I see in the way. 140 though...Terrence Crawford is a bad man, and a fair bit bigger. Would be a legitimate superfight though.

**** Chavez Jr for thinking he could box with Canelo. **** him again for having no heart and letting the smaller fighter chase him around the ring for 12 rounds. **** Canelo for not finishing (or even hurting) a guy who didn't belong in the ring with him from a skills stand point. **** DLH for putting Canelo in the ring with this ****ng tomato can.

This is the shit that is killing boxing.

Best thing thats happened tonight is them announcing Canelo - GGG.

Apparently I turned off the fight too soon, because I turned it off at the end of the 12th, ranted on here and went to bed.

Yeah, that's ****ing awesome.

Best thing for boxing is the GGG - Canelo date.
Canelo may die though, he's out gunned big time

+1

But GGG "struggling" against a world class opponent, with Cinnamon pounding on a tomato can with a famous last name in their last appearances will put a lot of doubt into some people's heads. I'd be surprised if a really motivated GGG doesn't pound on him. This is the fight he's been begging for the last 24 months.

I saw you posted your rant right around the time the fight ended. Was wondering why you hadn't made mention of the GGG-Canelo announcement. LOL.

I was pretty pissed i wasted an evening watching the fight as well. You can see the frustration on Canelo when Chavez wouldn't engage.

I've got GGG winning the upcoming fight but at 35 you never know.

Huge card tonight.

I got:

Dos Santos over Miocic - I don't really care who wins this one
Joanna over Andrade - I'm hoping for a knockout here
Masvidal over Maia- Masvidal is a nasty motherf*cker
Rodriguez over Edgar - I think this will be fight of the night
Alvarez over Poirier - Meh

If Alvarez doesn't win, Connor broke him. Maia needs his fight on the ground to win, he needs to stop thinking he's a striker...one of the best BJJ cats on the planet, use it. Agreed on Yair, Joanna and JDS winning their fights.

Saw why Eddie got shredded by Connor there. He's just too easy to hit...tough as ****ing nails though, but really easy for a good boxer to square up. Good bet for a rematch in September.

Miocic just keeps getting it done. Crazy rise to the top for him.

Speculation is the winner of Werdum and Reem gets the next shot but I wouldn't mind seeing them mixing it up and giving it to Lewis.

I want to see Ngannou get a shot. Dude is a freak.

Great card last night.

Maia continues to get it done. Masvidal put in a great effort and i have little doubt if this was a 5 round fight he would've beat Maia. Awesome display of BJJ.

Joanna is a standup god. Completely and decisively picked her opponent apart. It wasn't even close.

Edgar manhandled Yair. Great showing for him. Its too bad Edgar just can't get it done against Aldo. I was hoping the new blood would win and potentially step in and compete against Aldo.

We need a rematch between Poirier and Alvarez. Alvarez showed his toughness early on. Stupid rule called the fight. Was he down? Was he not down? Why was he down? Never been a fan of the "downed opponent" rule as i feel too many guys use that as an opportunity to catch their breath and do nothing.

Excellent card.

Maia has been beasting since he stopped thinking he should be standing up with everyone...dude is what, a top 5 BJJ practitioner on the planet? Decides mid career that he's going to try knocking people out and starts getting merk'd...weird, right?

Yeah. I thought Yair's striking would keep Frankie a bit more honest, and keep the fight on their feet for longer stretches....****ing wrong. 24 is a puppy in MMA years though, so Yair has lots of time to work on his takedown defence (though that's always going to be hard against a little fire hydrant), and work on game planning wrestlers. It almost looks like Yair's game plan for being on his back was his striking and submission skills from his back and yeah, well...****. DC made a lot of good points during the fight that he needed to work more on controlling Frankie's posture, and worry a lot less about the hammer fists from the ground.

It's tough though. Kneeing a defensless opponent in the side of the head is ****ing dangerous, and from that kind of dominant position, there's so many other things you can employ (take the back, etc). It's frustrating to see guys use that as a breather (similar to seeing defenders in hockey turn into hits to take them on the numbers to draw penalties), but it's better than the alternative of guys getting their brains scrambled in defensless positions.

Dana White announced tonight that Conor McGregor has agreed to terms and signed a contract to fight Mayweather.

They need to get Mayweather's signature now.

If this happens, Conor is going to get killed.
