Round 2 | Montréal vs. Boston

It's now official: series starts Thursday night at 7:30 and game 2 is Saturday at 12:30.
What a joke! So let me get this straight, they're going to play on crappy "slow ice" Thursday, and the afternoon fest Saturday.

Winning will be even more tasty!

I figured Thursday night from the get only to be told it wasn't possible.

I absolutely hate noon games (or there abouts).

I'm not the only one who has noticed Murray is amongst the worst players in the NHL.

Also Murray's four games vs Boston..... 0pts, -3,

His relative corsi in last year's playoffs.... -17.5, 2nd worst defenceman on the team, and the only guy worse than him played 1/2 as many playoff games.

Penalties taken per 60.... 2nd worst on the Pens behind only Matt Cooke. So not only was he no improvement to their PK, he actually caused more 4 on 5 situations than any other defenceman.

On the Habs, this year.... Only player with a worse relative corsi (regulars, ie not less than 5 games), Ryan White and George Parros,.... this is despite having the best offensive zone start percentage of any defenceman (not including callups).

When you include quality of competition (very low for Murray) its even worse.

The guy is a ****ing disaster, and has been a disaster since 2011. Before that he wasn't so bad.

What was the problem with Thursday? I thought it was the fact they wouldn't be ready for grad on Friday morning, not that there was something making the ice slow on Thursday.

Starting January Boston has had 7 home games on Saturdays, 5 at 1pm, 1 at 12:30pm, 1 at 3pm... no surprise the game Sat is an afternoon match, lets hope the Habs will be ready to go because Boston has had lots of practice with early games.

You are counting on Murray to get points? Or using that to judge him as a player?
I miss his Frankenstein-like play, it is entertainment industry after all and he is entertaining (both good and not so much). If he were to draw back in vs Bruins, I would be pleased, but highly doubt he will. He is only one who can move/flatten Chara/Lucic in front of net and seems to get Chara off his game, which may be important.
Advanced stat guys have been touting how bad Habs are and how dumb coaches have been all frickin year and now will be one of 8 remaining.

Re: The Second Round Thread

It's now official: series starts Thursday night at 7:30 and game 2 is Saturday at 12:30.

So my guess last weekend seems pretty accurate right now;

Based on the event calendar of both arenas this is my prediction of the series schedule;

Game 1: Habs at Bruins Thur May 1
Game 2: Habs at Bruins Sat May 3
Game 3: Bruins at Habs Tues May 6
Game 4: Bruins at Habs Thur May 8
Game 5: Habs at Bruins Sat May 10*
Game 6: Bruins at Habs Mon May 12*
Game 7: Habs at Bruins Wed May 14*

* If Necessary

I don't normally put much weight into game 1's of a playoff series but I think Boston will have the edge for the Sat afternoon game so we need game 1 badly IMO.

Yes, clearly the only stat I mentionned was points.

And Murray played exactly 0 games in the first round, a round where we controlled the puck better than at any point this season... coincidence? Nope.

He brings down the team in two ways.

1) We have to shelter him with offensive zone starts. Instead of giving these to Subban and Markov who can use them to create offense, we give them to Murray so we can shelter him. That takes away from the effectiveness of every d in our lineup but taking a disproportionate amount of offensive zone starts... something we don't do with Weaver and Bouillion or Tinordi.

2) He is so bad that he makes anyone he plays with worse. Basically the other team's possession numbers with murray on the ice rival a powerplay. How does this make his teammates worse? Simple, if the other team has the puck in our end of the ice... we can't score.

The problems Murray brings are ridiculous... and they aren't just seen in advanced stats. Just watch him out there. HE CAN'T ****ING SKATE. He is literally the worst skater in the NHL, I'm not even exaggerating. He is so bloody slow.

Think of it this way, For every 10 minutes of even strength Murray plays, we are pinned in our own end for 7:30-8:00 of it. Now if the entire team played 7:30 of the first 10 minutes hemmed in their own end, what would your reaction be? Would you think the team is playing well, generating very little offensively? No, of course not... so why is it acceptable to have a player who every time he's on the ice he is in his own end of the ice.

Yes, I get it, he's big and strong.

But here's the thing..... to win, you need size, strength, skill and speed. Not just 2/4. 2 out of 4 doesn't get you anywhere.

As it stands, I wouldn't change a thing on the blue line. Let Bouillon and Weaver start. They've only been for one GA at 5-5 in 4 games while being on the ice for 6. Unlike Murray, they can move the puck out of the zone.

NBC is showing the Kentucky Derby as of 3 pm, so they had to put the game at 12:30 pm.....no other choice...NBC doesn't like evening games on Saturday...no one in the USA watches

I don't think they have ever tried but the main reason is usually they get big ad dollars to air a prime-time sched that includes Dateline and new comedy series that don't include things like blood on ice.

I mean the US just came through a long cold winter so how many people will be in their homes on Saturday morning watching TV when they have got lawns to mow, flowers to plant and stores to visit.

Can't wait until the game goes to OT and then gets bumped of their main network so we can see the horsies parade to the post for an hour.

This has everything to do with appeasing NBC nothing else - CBC plays second fiddle.

Not when the Leaves are involved... the CBC has some pull there.

However the other issue is that there is no way the two western 2nd round series can start a game at 12:30 pm est and the Penguins have their arena booked for Saturday so the Bruins/Habs is all that is left for NBC to use and abuse.
