Its based on a random sample of people who get neilson boxes

Those people are paid

A family with a neilson box gets a different remote for every member of the family.

When you watch tv younpush the button and tell them you are watching. When you leave the room you push again.

They get a big random sample and then give ratings based on it... broken down by demographics and other things.
