Rumours, Innuendos and Flat out B.S.: 2021-22 Edition

Price won't be moving anywhere if we don't take 50% of his salary.

And the second problem is, is Carey Price good right now? We haven't seen him play in over 6 months.

Edmonton & Colorado are the logical destinations, especially at $5.25M. Colorado has Justin Barron that I like a lot, Edmonton has Xavier Bourgault.

He has to get in some games for sure , he needs to be healthy first and then some goalie failures around the league

This is a summer heavy lifting move , focus on dumping Lek , Chariot and others by the deadline

Allen is likely to be moved first.

I get that the Habs need to eat some of Price’s cap space, but they have to draw the line somewhere. Don’t like the idea of 10-12 in dead cap.

The dead cap space is irrelevant in our case.

In the next four years, which player on our team are we going to have to let go because that dead capspace is preventing us?

Nobody.

Suzuki's signed and Caufield/Romanov aren't going to be making a ton of money on their next deals.

Add to that, we're going to trade Chiarot, Lehkonen, Allen (probably), maybe Toffolli, and then hopefully find a taker for Petry/Gallagher/Anderson.

We need to shed as many contracts as possible to be able to give ourselves assets and flexibility in the future.

And we can sign some marginal veterans to short-ish, front-loaded contracts this summer to fill out the roster and hopefully leverage them for assets at next year's trade deadline.

It’ll be all up to Price - like Lundqvist situation, Gorton will not force Price to move unless he wants to.

Gorton also waited for Lundqvist to come to him agreeing to the buyout vs forcing that on him prior to final year of deal - even though Gorton didn’t need Lundqvist’s approval for a buyout

Price wants out. He just doesn’t want to do it in a bad way or leave on bad terms or tarnish what he did here. His wife I’m sure would be so happy to leave Montreal and he would get another chance to win. I have a feeling he knew he wanted to love and with his surgery and Covid and newborn, they thought it’s best to drag out the rehab more and set up for a good trade for habs, good draft pick positioning and everybody wins

Price will need more rehab if he wants to stick around for this shit show

I say a mutual exit is all but done in the summer

I don’t think they will buy out Price, but I’m not sure I like the idea of retaining cap for other players. The Habs aren’t gaining any flex by sitting on 10–12 M in dead cap for the next 5 years.

I hated the Gallagher contract when it was announced and I want all 6.5M off the books.

For him to agree to being exposed in the expansion draft , says alot

Even though he wasn’t going to be picked up , it opens up the idea of him leaving

$53M of Price’s $84M contract salary will already be off the books by seasons end - post July 1st $53M of his $70M bonuses will also have been paid out.

What remains will be avg $7.5M in actual salary w $4M of it in bonus on avg per year over next 4-years

Price's contract is buyout proof. Buying out his contract would leave us with a significantly larger caphit for the first four seasons if we decided to retain 50% of his salary. If we bought out his contract this summer, the caphit for the next four years is just south of $10M.

He cant think that far down the road
Exactly. I wish I could believe that this tank was part of a cunning plan but let's face it: this was unintentional and accidental and if Gorton came to Molson tomorrow with a plan to buy at the deadline in a foolish attempt to get into a wildcard spot and give him 2 playoff gates, Geoff would be all over it.

The thing is this would of started after 2019 if it want for Covid

Nero gets fired , but Gorton wouldn`t be our executive

I don't think anyone thinks that we started the season with the intention of tanking. I think you are right, but I am hoping Gorton is stern enough to let Molson know that he needs some time to build up our prospects with blue chips so we can have a chance at many consecutive cup runs. The fact is, most fans don't have the capacity or want to tank for the required amount of time to achieve that, I mean, we haven't been at all good for 25 years and the Bell is still sold out.

He has no choice , how can you keep patching this shit show

2/3 of this team wont be here in 2-3 years

Cup run is miles away unless a rebuild is successful , there are no short cuts

Very easily…if ownership consortium orders you to do so. I fail to believe this consortium has the appetite for a 3-4 year rebuild - I need to see it to believe it.

They don't, but this was what I call an unintentional tanking job. Even if they're kicking & screaming, this team is far from anything better than what we have now.

I was only half joking the other day when I said, I expect Gorton to go after Kadri, Bergeron & Klingberg on July 1st. A roster spot will be filled by the 1st pick this year on ELC..

I expect Chiarot & Toffoli at a min to be gone by deadline. That’s $8M w potential of $11M if Lekhonen gets dealt. Weber LTIR will free up another $7M.

$18M free space allows for overpaid signings to happen.

If Gorton tries to go hard after UFAs this summer, then we might need to create a new thread entitled, Who's Really In Charge, And Why Is The Correct Answer Geoff Molson? because he'll be just as much of a puppet as the next General Manager Figurehead.
