There was never a chance that Roy would be hired. Gorton would have to be suicidal to bring that clown into the organization. And you can tell he'd be a terrible hire simply by listing all the people who have come out and publicly endorsed him for the job, like Serge Savard, Mario Tremblay and Guy Carbonneau.
And as Marinaro pointed out on air yesterday, if you hire Roy the francophone press will be calling for Gorton to be fired within a year and will be shilling for Roy to take over. And if Roy has a disagreement with Gorton, everyone will side with Roy. And if Roy is wrong they'll still side with Roy.

If there wasn't the contract situation, I would strongly think about it.
However, Pettersson's got us by the balls if he doesn't want to stay here.
Let's say he doesn't want to stay here, he'll be an RFA in 30 months. He'll get a nice $10M qualifying offer, he'll take it, then he'll hit free agency.
So I would keep Suzuki.

Kale Clague looks like he might be one of those Ben Maxwell, TJ Brennan types. Too good for the AHL, not quite good enough to play in the NHL.
That said, I'd pick him up in a heartbeat and waive Niku. If he doesn't pan out, send him to the AHL.
