Without intending to be negative, I seriously ask if he does have a good track record? He's been around, yes, and was attempting a rebuild in New York that appeared sound, even if the owners ran out of patience. That may be no fault of Gorton. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

One thing that looks positive to me is that at least he was going about it the right way in New York, regardless of what the owners thought. Now they may be reaping the fruit he left behind, aided by Gallant.

Of the available candidates, who would you have hired? We’re actually getting the best available guy out there, not just the best available Franco. You should be ecstatic.
 
It’s the Old Boys Network that bugs me. It protected an incompetent management team for years. So this is what we get. Total rot.

It’s not unique to the Habs of course, the Rangers were a country club in pre-Gorton years (coincidence?)

The ultimate accountability rests with Molson. He came across as a fanboy rather than an executive demanding results.

NYC is not the #1 desired locale. It's a media fishbowl, taxes are high and cost of living is insane. Not to mention the weather is as bad as Montreal.

Anywhere in Florida, Vegas or Arizona are more desirable. No state taxes, nicer weather, golf 365 days a year, and a nonexistent media.
 
The worst was the "shaming " tour of talk shows MB was forced to do by Molson (around 2018.?) Apologizing for poor team performance and poor communication. I bet that was something MB never shook off and was hesitant to re-sign.

I'm taking more of a wait and see view. But I agree-he may be the best available candidate and I'm feeling ok about it, if not ecstatic.

MB simply wanted out of this market - he’ll land as GM in a US market this summer if he wants to keep working. My guess - Hawks or Ducks
