What does Gretzky bring besides a name?

I am all in for MLSE bringing in the best of the best, just curious what would make Gretzky such a highly regarded executive.

He only hired one coach since becoming GM, and stubbornly refusing to fire the one he inherited when he first arrived, not sure how that qualifies as lazy though.

I think his ability to potentially attract talent as well as join the old boys club that is the NHL Board is what will attract TL to him.

Monstrous levels of connections, prestige, etc. If you're a free agent, and Wayne Gretzky...Wayne ****ing Gretzky has flown to wherever you are with the GM to pitch you on coming to Toronto....dude....Wayne ****ing Gretzky.

Sorry, I thought he hired Wilson. But keeping bad furniture because it came with the place isn't ideal.
 
I instead picture Clarkson warning UFAs about the mad pressures of T-dot money.

It was either JFJ or Fletcher who hired Wilson, the problem was Burke let his off ice friendship get in the way of business, it took until the pro-verbial 18 wheeler went over the cliff before he decided to fire him and bring in Randy.
 
This team needs some tweaking, and it'll be interesting to see how we do it.

If its management and coaching being moved around, i want the best of the best.

What GM would we be able to steal away from another team?
 
FWIW....While Gretzky was a major piece of the Coyotes, they drafted and developed: Hanzal, Yandle, Turris, Boedker, Stone, OEL

We've kind of taken for granted that Phoenix has become a quality team/franchise despite all of their financial issues, but the Gretzky years, where he was a major part of their brain trust, are the foundation for why they're any hell now.

I think the management of MLSE need to figure out what type of game they want the Leafs to play and from there go out and hire a coach who can implement said system.

Yep...every goal that Defoe scores reminds us all about that. Wait until Drake woos a legit NBA free agent to push this Raptors group into legit contendership.


Everything TL touches, seems to turn to gold. Dude just knows how to sell. He's more than welcome to make any changes to Leaf management that he wants.
 
You guys are freaking me out. Please Leafs, make the playoffs and ensure the return of the Randy system.
