Special teams need to be worked on. Hopefully with some practice time at home things will improve.
The Habs have a problem on defense when killing penalties and their power play hasn't been productive for quite a while including the playoffs last Spring. Perhaps Weaver and Markov aren't big enough to clean up the front of Price's net against the league's best power plays. Perhaps our own power play would be better with bigger and stronger players than Dandenault and Parenteau. I, for one, would like to see Pacioretty, Galcheniuk and Galagher up front on our PP. I thought the coaching and the motivation weren't very good last night but it's just my opinion.
Markov sucked last night.m. but so did the entire team. He was also excellent in the first three games. I dont get the panic on him.
On the pp we just need to do two things.
1) shoot more.
2) run some more down low plays and shots from parenteau/pacioretty/galchenyuk from the old kovalev spot. Set that up cause they are playing high on subban. Once you start getting chances and goals in other ways subban will open up again
There is more than one way to skin a cat. Even without this player (which would be great to have... dont get me wrong) weve still been capable of a top 5 pp many times in the last decade. The Habs need a big bodied net presence player, which they don't have in the system - it's just not in MaxPac's DNA to play that game (nor is it in Parenteau & Galchenyuk's), and Bourque is too erratic to play it consistently.
It's a weakness the org has had going on 20-yrs - since Brian Bellows & John LeClair.
Yup - the PP is too predictable, and has been for a long time. The Habs need a big bodied net presence player, which they don't have in the system - it's just not in MaxPac's DNA to play that game (nor is it in Parenteau & Galchenyuk's), and Bourque is too erratic to play it consistently.

Let's start by inverting the point man to set up Subban for the one-timer, just like it should be. He often gets open but one the right side he needs to stop the puck first before shooting it and by that time there is a guy right in front of him.
I noticed that in the Flyers game and it made no sense to me all - Subban's weapon on the PP is his one-timer . . . but I know you don't like to criticize this coach for some reason.
Oh trust me, I'm totally blaming Lacroix on that one.
That's very funny, BTW.
Thank you!
But on a more serious note, this one is on him for now. Last year with Gallant running the PP, they were inverting the point man as soon as possible. This year with Lacroix, they don't even try. If Therrien allows the PP to be run like shit for too long, it will be on him.
Given that MT has been here for 3 seasons and knows PK's game, he should probably say something to Lacroix by now, don't you think? Although I'm amazed that Lacroix is not utilizing PK's bomb from the point,
Or maybe it's trying to force a culture change by the coaches on the players - want the players to stop relying on Subban's bomb & come up with other means...

I'd say pretty damn good - 6 out of possible 8 pts to start the season all courtesy of 5-on-5 scoring....I doubt it but if so, how that's working out so far?
