Not a huge deal, the issue is timing in regards to naming him captain. Do they put it off an entire year when they can just name Rielly or Tavares captain?
I really hope the Leafs did know about this.

Thats interesting. And its not just timing. You have legit quality captains in Tavares and Rielly. And Matthews, while the best player and the example and leader of the team on the ice, is still an immature kid. I wonder if this changes the decision.

Lmao at the outrage.

Who gives a shit about any of this. Young guy doing immature things with his friends while drunk. Womp womp.

Society is soft as ****.

Being in his underwear is equivalent to having a bathing suit on.
Nothing sexual about it.
He is 21 ..... if Austin wasnt a professional athlete, this isnt even noticed.
And as usual ..... pronger taking the holier than thou attitude.
If Matthew's walking towards her in his underwear constituted sexual harassment than I guess every single woman without a bra or wearing spandex constitutes sexual harassment (which it doesnt).
And Matthew's agent probably knew about this incident and advised him to keep it quiet.
No damage except it gave stevie the pedo Simmons something to write about.

Its funny with all the negativity coming from this in the last 24 hours, he did a great thing in saving one of his teammates from causing a media circus while in St Johns.

I wont get into specifics of who it was but someone else pulled some macho hockey player bs at a bar after the game in St John's. Matthews stepped in and calmed the situation down.

Babs stated he just learned about the incident last night.
I know it's overblown, but people should have known about it.

Usually you think the parents or agents would advise him to come forward and let the team know but I have a feeling he kept it from everyone hoping it would blow over.

The incident happened in May and he wasn't officially charged until late July

Rutherford said during the off-season he was looking to move Tristan Jerry, but was unable to find a trade partner. Jarry would require waivers to be sent down to the AHL prior to the season, as would both of the team's projected goaltenders Matt Murrayand Casey DeSmith.

“Conversations are going on,” Rutherford said. “If someone wants to make a trade, then there’s a good chance we will do that. Otherwise, we’re either going to keep all three on the roster or hope one of them clears waivers.”

Rutherford declined to say Tuesday whether DeSmith had earned the backup job behind Murray, despite the goaltender appearing in 36 games last season and signing a three-year contract extension in January.

“We have three really good goalies, I know that much,” Rutherford said. “That’s a good problem to have, but it’s still a problem. Those guys have all been great. So, is there going to be a trade coming up here? It’s certainly a possibility.”

DeSmith would be a decent option, and it sounds like Rutherford is desperate to not waive one of them.

Full roster tonight:

Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Moore
Timashov - Gauthier/Spezza - Clune

Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Kivihalme/Marincin - Sandin

Andersen
Woll

I don't really see how Jarry is an improvement on Hutchinson, so I don't see what the point would be there. DeSmith I'd take if he's available, but I don't see why Pittsburgh would choose to keep Jarry over him, besides Jarry being 24 and DeSmith being 28.

And on the Matthews front, maybe it means something, and maybe it doesn't, but Auston won't be wearing an "A" tonight after having one on his jersey for his previous two pre-season games. The "A's" tonight will be worn by Tavares, Rielly & Muzzin.

Babcock also confirmed to the media that the first he heard of this incident was this morning.

Damage control now and its the right thing. They are going to get it from both sides when they do but let this simmer down, learn from his mistake and use it as a learning moment

Yep, the twitiots are already out in full force skewering Auston for his "weak apology".

Hate to break it to them but there is a really good chance their favorite player is also a massive brosef
