The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

obviously hindsight.

Again, we pay people millions to have that foresight. People who stood in front of the media and flat out said that it was there job when they signed 4 forwards to all the money to identify good players for cheap.

The guy immediately left here, and was impactful there. Immediately.

That's on us, not him.

…..I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that the guys who played the best in the opportunities given, as well as in practice….were given the opportunities with the big guys.

or Keefe knew how good he was, and out of spite refused to give him a chance.
Well the whole point is that they don't give the "mystery boxes" opportunity. Coaches and teams are comforted by the known commodities even if they're absolute garbage. I hold the Leafs to a higher standard than this. They've lost too many quality pieces in favor of garbage. There's no excuse. I'm surprised this is a hill you're dying on..

Or Keefe has now consistently shown unbreakable faith in anyone with more than 100 games played in the league and next to no faith in anyone who hasn't.

There's no spite necessary, just a misplaced faith in veteran NHL'ers, and it's burned him annually.

i mean, Dubas did identify him…and beat everyone else out for him.

id absolutely blame Keefe for it, before I’d blame Dubas.

this isn’t a hill I’m dying on….I agreed with the many pieces point a few times. I just disagree on Barabanov given it was a ~50 game season, he looked like shit in the games he did play, and he was a UFA with a short window to prove himself here. (Plus I think we had agreement to deal him, if he wasn’t being played.)

if he was flashing the talent and Keefe chose not to play him….that’s on him tho,

or not seeing what he has in front of him...and/or how he can make that player better

and Dubas' coach didn't play him

and then they loaded him up in the catapult after 13 games, and he was immediately impactful for another NHL team.

Barabanov clearly wasn't the problem in this equation.

(and this is overlooking that Barabanov may well have gotten some games in the top 6, and still been shit)

or maybe they just were too scared to give the younger guys the chances they gave the older guys, and just plain fucked up?

like all the evidence suggests?

zero disagreement here.
