Wayward Ditch Pig
Bilecki is a very mobile, agile and deceptive skater, being able to change his speed and pace in both the offensive and defensive zone. He has great four-way movement and doesn’t break stride to get into the open spaces when attacking. He shows great composure and poise when dealing with pressure and gets out of trouble with his skating, edgework and hands to navigate through those tough situations and then quickly finds an outlet to breakout and move the play forward. He has good protection skills and makes smart decisions with the puck making quick side step movements to get by attackers with ease.
Bilecki is a very crisp and accurate passer, connecting with his teammates frequently and often, be it short tape to tape passes or long stretch plays for a quick transition to the forwards. His head is always on a swivel, scanning the ice and assessing his options to breakout or carry the play himself. He’s always getting those puck touches and is always looking to create something by opening things up. He doesn’t have a powerful shot, but he does a great job to get pucks on net and where to place it for rebound opportunities. He makes solid reads to make timely pinches to keep the play alive in the offensive zone or engage on the cycle.
Defensively, Bilecki’s game continues to be a work in progress, but there are some things to like even if it’s not as consistent from time to time. He’s sound positionally and aggressively attacks puck carriers and can intercept plays very well. He does a great job to keep players to the outside, stay with his assignments and displays great energy and intensity in the corners. He needs to add more strength to his game to handle that style at the next level.
