The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

and we pick yet again at 85

this year's class will be interesting as the first of the new era

Will start counting more next year once he has been here more than a few weeks. Likely just trusting the staff.

He might change the staff starting after the draft to his own people etc.

The bigger impact Chayka will have right now is in telling his scouts what type of players they want. Just like Brad saying "Long D" influences what players his scouts suggest. Chayka telling them to find him skill just has them re ordering their personal lists that they turn in.

I'll never forget Wes Clark saying "he's a long d, we know what Tre likes so we try to execute."

I get that. Just saying I won’t start really evaluating him until next draft. He will have the year + time to put his people into place. Also, scouts get the whole year to understand what to look for. They were preparing for another draft of 6’4 unskilled guys this year.

The gm dictates the kinds of players he likes/prefers. Wes Clark under Dubas picked different kinds of players than Wes Clark under Tre. So this draft for me was the real test. Chayka may have a different set of scouts next year but his role will be the same. He dictates what the priority is, that's it.

The actual hit rate will vary due to luck and maybe caliber of scouting team. But I just like seeing Chayka execute his role in a similar way that I would.

So yet again; I get it. You just said the same thing basically that I replied to.

That won’t change that I am not fully starting to count this for-against burger GM this year. And I dictated why.

Heard enough about his track record in Phoenix from posters here and questioning whether to count his first draft when he took over for how much credit.

And I am celebrating that this draft has proven that we are truly in a post-Tre era, while disagreeing with you about the significance of a gms role in the draft. That's all!
