I listened to some talking heads discuss them and if it were up to them, they'd change the mix of the core since they can't even make the playoffs with them, nevermind win a cup or even a round. Which is usually my gauge for what most gms think. Not that I think they'd trade a seider or anything.

If they're punting on the midget, id be listening. Seider is the only one interesting enough to pay for though.

I mean, we'll see but its hard to be more than a bottom pair NHL defender without the type of puck skills that produce big CHL numbers. Dernferd being pedestrian offensively as a 19 yr old in the OHL probably speaks to a low ceiling.

eh, first we gotta remove PP stats from that.

the likes of McCabe and Tanev weren't productive prospects either.

With Boston's win tonight, Ottawa is officially playing for nothing tomorrow. A bit dangerous but I trust that the leafs can organically lose.

I hate to break it to you champ, but 16 points in 37 games is bad 5v5 production for a prospect defender too. There's no way to shine that up.

McCabe was good offensively in the NCAA. Tanev I'm not going to get into much because I don't feel like breaking out my OPJHL NHLe formula, but he was an offensive producer in Jr A tier 2, and the shitty NCAA conference he played in.

I will say this though, here's the guys on the all D, no O club (let's say 20+ mpg, and 30 or fewer points/82...and I'm omitting guys who have been regular 30+ point scorers in the past. I've highlights the guys who played in the CHL and put their D+1 & D+2 PPG next to them.

Esa Lindell
York
Edvinsson
McCabe
Bahl .50, .57
Samberg
Demelo .40, .70
Pettersson
Larsson
Vlasic
Ferraro
Zadorov .83
Chiarot .31, .58

Roy
Anderson
McNabb .89, 1.22
Schneider 1.22

Whitecloud
Mikkola
Brodin
Pesce
Chatfield (Undr) .35, .54

So that's more or less what we're hoping Dernferd turns into. One of those guys. Welp, among that CHL group, he would be at .41ppg so just ahead of Chiarot, De Melo, and Chatfield, and his D+2 total of .44 is a pretty distant last. That doesn't mean he can't do it, but yeah. What it does mean though, is expecting him to do it at 20 next year is probably mental. Aside from the few lottery picks on the list, these guys didn't arrive as top 4 defenders on non tank teams until they were 22-23.

20pts in 45gms.

It's funny because Cumford is possibly a better skater than most or all of the d in the top 5-10 of this draft, but the guy has zero other offensive skills or IQ in junior. Maybe he's another Jake Muzzin, but even if he is, it'll take awhile.

Can they stop the clock in the flames game? Just give them both a point and go home. I can't take the suspense.

The flames game in their season finale is unfortunately likely gonna have serious implications for LA. They may need to win to avoid the Avs in the first round. So I'm not particularly confident that the flames can do it even if they manage to win or get a point tonight.

But it could be fun.
