The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

I wouldn’t put it past him, but 69 goals was probably just his peak season.

But he’d have scored a lot more the last two years if he wasn’t used like prime David Kampf under Keefe. His usage was insane. And obviously playing is a system where you don’t have the puck doesn’t help scorers.
might be a peak but 69 wasn't some outlier either.

goal paces:

16-17 (17:38): 40
17-18 (18:08): 45
18-19 (18:33): 45
19-20 (20:58): 55
20-21 (21:33): 65
21-22 (20:37): 67
22-23 (20:17): 44
23-24 (20:58): 70
24-25 (20:28): 40
25-26 (20:48): 37

ixg/60 (all situations)

16-17: 1.49
17-18: 1.21
18-19: 1.48
19-20: 1.21
20-21: 1.46
21-22: 1.62
22-23: 1.62
23-24: 1.77
24-25: 1.78
25-26: 1.61

That wasn’t really the point, but just mean his peak may be behind him at this point.

Analytics friendly people hate him too.

Prove 'em wrong Chayks.

genuinely have a hard time seeing why they would hate him anyways. do these really seem like bad analytics adds?

Keller - Stepan - Schmaltz
Hall - Soderberg - Kessel
Crouse - Hayton - Garland
Grabner - Cousins - Hinostroza

Chychrun - Hjalmarsson
Goligoski - Demers
DeAngelo/Oesterle - Schenn/Boosh

Wedgewood
Kuemper
Raanta

JFresh wrote an essay about why he hates him. I couldn't get through it but here it is

yeah it doesn't seem like Sundin is even in the chain of personnel decision making, which is the right move.

and while you could see his role as just some symbolic bullshit - i highly doubt he'd move his family over here if he thought it was bullshit.

I'm not planning on being patient with this Sundin/Chayka horse shit. Love Mats, but wtf?? The org is just not exhibiting much intelligence except easily hiring somebody better than Treliving. That's just not a bar that's at all difficult to get over. I do still love hockey, so I'll catch as many different games as I can. Just not gonna feel guilty about catching the Leafs out of the corner of my eye the coming season.

summary of moves he thought chayka should be blamed for:

1. Pre-emptive hefty RFA extensions to Keller Schmaltz Chychrun Dvorak. Turns out now of course that 3 of those 4 were good ideas.

2. UFA signings:

- Goligoski for $5.5 - but jfresh admits was an analytics darling and good top pair dman for almost all of the seasons leading up that contract. he says that goligoski's drop in defensive stats for only one year prior to the signing means that it was a bad analytics signing.
- McGinn $3.3 - who had been a physical 20/40 pace type for most of his career before arizona
- Grabner $3.0 - who had been a 25/50 type forward the previous couple years
- Vrbata/Schenn/White for $1m each - though he admits Vrbata was actually great value and schenn was fine

3. trades

- jfresh excoriates the domi for galchenyuk trade, because he says Domi was very good on the analytics at the time. but that's just funny in retrospect.
- also then excoriates him for trading galchenyuk for kessel

4. overall

- jfresh thinks that swapping Domi Duclair Strome DeAngelo, 1st for Keller Schmaltz Chychryn Hayton, was terrible management analytically. Which is pretty damn funny in retrospect.

Should at least give these guys a shot to see what they can do

In 2 days we find out if we keep our pick
In a week or so we'll start to get clarity on Berube, this is Chayka's first legit test. An easy test, but we know we're fucked if he fails it.
In 7 weeks we start find out what type of talent we're prioritizing and if this guy us up to this challenge.
