Anyway Gio 800k is good
Use some of the marlies in the bottom 6 (Steeves, Robertson etc)

Can create a ton of room with muzzin and mrazek money if they choose to move them.

You have in Ufa...Josh Manson, Justin Schultz, Collin Miller, Connor Murray, Erik gudbranson, Justin Braun, Jan Ruuta, Joshua brown,....those are all 6'2 and up defenseman that shoot right available. There are others.

Hell maybe pk for 800k just to have as an extra.

Don’t need to add any. Need to trade one.
 
Muzzin-Brodie is as close as this team could get to having a Hedman. Trade him and the possibility of that is gone. But I get that it's not a sure thing so really the safer, less aggressive move is to trade him and accept that you're gonna have to try to win a cup without a dominant #1 pair. Not easy I think. For that reason, I'll allow glasses to make the decision.
 
Well, we need to spend more of G and that has to come from somewhere…kerfoot and Muzzin gives a lot of flexibility to get added scoring in top 9 and two quality goalies to go into next year with. But we don’t know the price of potential replacements - but we have a lot of good trade bait to get what we need to fill the 2C, 3C G and cheaper top 4 D holes that we have (it’s time to move JT to left wing, trade kerfoot/Muzzin/Mrazek).

I wonder if Dubas secretly asks Matthews what it will take next July 1 for the extension so he knows what he has to work with for longer term contracts to fit things in as I don’t imagine a whole lot of change to the cap by then.

Question: Would you trade Nylander if you have a contract for Forsberg in place?

I don’t. Liked him as a 4C, but also depends who our 2C is. Because u can put matthews out against anyone and he’s basically Selke worthy. So less need to give that much ice time to a defensive specialist that can’t drive offense. Four years ago JT and Matthews makes no need to give that much ice time to Kampf - just don’t know who we have next year

Don't think I'd be too horny about that tbh. Forsberg and Nylander are closer in quality than most people think man. Paying Forsberg 9.5 to do what Willy does, but miss 15 games a season to injury in the process, doesn't seem like a huge win for me unless we turned Willy into someone awesome and under control for cheapish.

My brain would be like a bigger swap. Signing Forsberg, trading Nylander (get Muzzin replacement that is young/controlled) and Muzzin (get picks/futures - can use those futures for whatever we need come deadline).
 
I like forsberg a lot but you’re buying high. If you’re the leafs you can’t afford to spend 9m on a 30-30 guy, which is what he’s generally been until this year. And maybe this year he figured it out but you’ve also got to worry about the back end of that deal.
