Updates and Rumours from around the League

All real good stuff. He didn't get drafted third overall because Yzerman was drunk.

But he's disappointed so far, in a big way considering where he was drafted.

So I'd like to keep two mid 1st rounders and see what I could do with them in a strong first round. Or I'd like to trade those two first rounders for a higher first round pick. Say we can trade 15 and 16 and take Laine or Tkachuk. You don't prefer that? There's just a lot you can do with two firsts. You like the risk of gambling on a depressed stock. I prefer taking two shots at something else.

Because he's pretty damn close to that.

Drouin has a higher ceiling than either.

You're really undervaluing what Drouin did as a 19 yr old rookie last year. Domi is, and Forsberg was 20 during their rookie seasons, and both were given opportunities on much, much shallower forward groups that Drouin has never been given.

I'm not saying I wouldn't want Drouin.

I just wouldn't want to trade prime assets for him.

Build a package around Bozak or Phaneuf and I'm pretty thrilled.

With some of the other veterans we have available to trade i wouldn't be overly concerned about moving that Pittsburgh 1st for Drouin.

At this point the more young talent we can add the better. We need help everywhere. Despite playing well i still think we draft top 10.

Winnik
Spaling
Matthias
Hunwick
Polak
Grabner

We have guys to move for later round picks. Hell we might even swindle a team into forking over a 1st for a package of these jobbers.

Babcock has been excellent in this regard. Finding roles for these guys.

lol wut?

Why the **** would a team do that?

Except he hasn't remotely disappointed....as a 19 yr old rookie, he produced in 5 on 5 situations at a level on par with a number of very, very good offensive hockey players. His biggest problem is that he's stuck on the 3rd line of a team that expected to contend and has a lot of talent and contracts.

And he did it while being a strong possession player. This kid is going to be a stud. You're getting hung up on the numbers of guys who were given 1st line opportunities in their rookie seasons because their forward groups were waste lands of talent.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA what an idiot

I LOL'd here. What a sequence.

But yea, Drouin is a stud. He is definitely not a disappointment. You never know but he looks like a worthwhile risk. Hopefully this management team is creative enough to find players such as Drouin who otherwise wouldn't be available.

You grouped a handful of superstars in with Drouin, who paces out to half of Larkin's production in his sophomore season before getting demoted.

You grouped your potential #15 pick with Larkin. You really don't see it's the same thing.

There's a significantly higher chance that Drouin becomes a stud than whoever gets drafted 15th overall next year.

It seems to me Cooper is causing the Lightning a lot of headaches/. Not sure it was worth extending him. That team has nice talent, you can find another coach to get results.

Hard to argue after he took them to the finals last year. I think they got hit with injuries a bit and some of the guys that produces last year haven't progressed as expected. Still an excellent roster.

Stamkos will be ours shortly and we will be looking mighty fine. Drouin to go along with Stamkos would be.... jeeeeeez.

the headache is stamkos. usually players are hesitant to leave once the dollar figures are floated, regardless of their situation (e.g. rick nash re-signing in columbus, of all places). they're in a bind because their star forward doesn't want to re-sign a market deal in florida, with a team that just made it the finals.

as for drouin, i think what leafman suggested makes some sense. tough to do better than him as a centrepiece in a johansen deal. columbus could use young pieces and tampa will need its replacement for stamkos.

unless bergevin is sold on drouin being a future star i don't think montreal makes much sense. that's a team that will be looking at more immediate help.

i think toronto probably has some of the pieces to get it done but i suspect tampa would want nylander. doubt a guy like komarov tempts them given they will probably be forced into somewhat of a rebuild next year if stamkos is gone. and if i'm toronto i don't think it makes much sense to take back bad deals. keep as much space as possible to throw at stamkos in the summer. and don't saddle the back end with bad, immovable pieces. it just kills your team. look at the flyers.
