The deaths at the Who concert in Cincinnati were in 1979, Paulie. If you haven't managed to learn anything in the meantime, it's because you didn't bother because it's been comprehensively covered and reported. Authorities do all sorts of stupid things over-reacting to bad outcomes. Shocking, I know. And as Andy points out, sometimes government officials act in criminally negligent ways in response to public tragedies. It is the way.

I'm confused. Who are you arguing with here, and/or what point are you actually trying to make? Some of us actually care about what happened at Hillsborough and in the aftermath so if you're trying to be funny or whatever ... stop, please. It was a tragedy compounded by an inept and snobbish government response that caused even further harm. This is the wrong subject for you to be cute. Ditto Cincinnati.
 
If it took until 2016 to find the soccer problem why did it take that long? The 2 space shuttle accidents took 6 months. And they have millions of parts to look at.

Notre Dame is the biggest joke college FB team. Every big game they get blown out. Most likely they will be #4 and get blown out by Alabama. Gotta have those TV ratings of all the fans that never came within 100 miles of ND campus. I guess they watch first half to see how bad it is.
 
Notre Dame is pretty much the college football team of choice for Chicago, so you have several million folks that are always within 100 miles of the ND campus.

And when I was a kid, one of the local New York stations had a condensed replay of Saturday’s game at 11 on Sunday morning. Have to keep the Subway Alumni happy.

I remember watching that in Corning in the early 70s after Mass.
 
subway alums are like a lot of the people wearing light blue or dark blue around here. Meaning a large chunk of them are not real alums.

For a few years as a kid I lived few miles from Rutgers stadium. We drove by it now and then. Don't recall meeting Rutgers fans but I met a ton of ND fans. Pretty sure still that way 50 years later. I think many of those people are Yankees, Cowboys, Laker, etc. fans.
 
Despite getting blown out by Clemson last night, Notre Dame stays in the top 4 and will play Alabama in the Rose Bowl (which will be played at Jerry World according to ESPN), with Clemson and Ohio St. in the Sugar Bowl. UNC plays Texas A&M (who were 5th) in the Orange Bowl, NC State is in the Gator and Wake on the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
 
ND had a bad first half last night, that's for sure, but they do have a win against the #1 team in the nation on their resume. TAMU has a loss against the #1 team on their resume. Just having four in the CFP is a joke anyway.

Football and basketball are polar opposites in the college world. The football regular season actually means something, but we always up with the same teams in the playoff. Basketball's regular season is meaningless, but the conference and NCAA tournaments are exciting as hell. /shrug

A few is being generous. After winning the Cotton Bowl over Texas A&M in 1994, they lost 9 straight bowl games and are 6-13 overall since then.
 
My father was a ND subway alum. There used to be a local ND fan group who would travel to ND games. They went to Tenn,S.Carolina, etc to see ND play,. I went with the group to a ND game at UNC where a freshman QB came off the bench to help win the game , Joe Montana. Also Montana was set to play BB at NCSU under Sloan until ND gave him a FB scholarship. As you might guess the ND fan group was all Catholics.

Dear goodness but you're stubborn. It didn't take until 2016 "to find the problem" with standing areas in stadiums. It took that long to convince people who blamed standing areas for bad outcomes that were caused by other factors. Largely it was an attitude of pre-judging all soccer fans as potential hooligans who needed to be controlled by authority to keep them from mauling each other. Turns out if you limit the sale of booze, treat people like something other than cattle when they enter and exit the stadium, and locate opposing fans' seating areas in a logical manner, then fans can stand behind the goals like they wanted to all along. But no worries ... you don't believe anything anybody tells you anyway. So carry on making whatever point you're trying to make this time.

Well, the regular season means something if you are a brand name school in a P5 conference. If you're Cincinnati or Coastal Carolina or even Indiana (brand name conference, store brand football program) then it means a lot less ... like next to nothing, in fact. The way this charade is currently run, they would simply figure out a way to place 4 SEC teams in the playoffs if they expanded the field to 8. And Ohio State would probably be the 8 seed even if they had a losing record.
 
27 years to do those changes is just as bad if not worse . Of course standing areas means more people which means more cash right? Amazing how it all comes down to cash. Same for concerts - no seats on the floor means more people and more cash.

Funny how groups always lie and claim things are not about cash. It's the American way . Like college FB this season for example. I saw a bunch of people lose jobs and work sent to China. And they said it was not about money. LMFAO. They said it was about making a global team. Nothing mentioned about how China folks make 20% of what we make here.

Just as bad as what Paulie? WTF are you even arguing about at this point?

And no ... a big feature of modern safe standing areas is that the fan density is roughly the same as the seated terraces. Believe it or not, some people prefer to stand in the traditional manner.
 
27 years to make changes just as bad as 27 years to find the problem. I thought that was obvious.

When I went to a Fulham home game few years back you could not drink in the seats. I guess that was an attempt to cut down on drunks? Of course you could drink plenty outside the seats. Reminds me of tailgating here where you can get hammered all you want. And now you can get more in the stadium too.
