And no ... a big feature of modern safe standing areas is that the fan density is roughly the same as the seated terraces. Believe it or not, some people prefer to stand in the traditional manner.
I’ve been to a a couple of games at Providence Park, both Thorns and Timbers. I’ve always been in the Timbers Army/Rose City Riveters section. There are seats (benches), but nobody uses them, not even at halftime. And that stadium is old, with the supporters sections are in the oldest part of the stadium. Significantly, most of the seats in those sections require a walk up stairs, so there is a lower chance of a crush.
