Leaf Rumours

Lindros, Neiwendyk, Roberts, Nolan, Mogilny etc. The Leafs added a bunch of stars past their prime. Wasn't exactly a bad thing though.

You can also throw in Leetch, Housley, Francis and yes even Doug Gilmour to that list. Can you imagine if we had all those players for us when they were in their prime, we'd for sure be a contender.

Should've amnestied Liles, and used the regular buyout on Komi.

Doesn't matter for this or next, but the 3M cap penalty in years 3 and 4 will hurt. Thankfully Nonis will still be under contract to try to dig himself out of his own mess.

There is never a $3 mill penalty.

John-Michael Liles buyout from CapGeek.com
2013-14: $875,000
2014-15: $875,000
2015-16: $2,375,000
2016-17: $1,250,000
2017-18: $1,250,000
2018-19: $1,250,000

$2.3 is more than manageable. The Leafs have more than that this year ($2.5) on a $64 mill cap. And its only one year. No big deal.

I thought it peaked at 2.9. It still a nuisance that could have been avoided, had you used the compliance on him and a regular buyout on Komi. Trading 500k for this year and next vs. 1.25-2.4 for the 4 after is not a deal you do easily.

Mike Komisarek buyout from CapGeek.com
2013-14: $2,166,667
2014-15: $1,166,667

Doing it this way actually saves them $1.5 mill on the cap this year and $500k next year. The longer hit hurts, but they can carry that easily once Armstrong and Tucker are off the books.

They spent a lot of money this offseason. So it helps in the short term.

**** it, as long as we can slot Franson & Kadri in this year, the impending uplift in the cap will make this a much easier pill to swallow.

I never like wasting cap space, but when it's cap space that other teams can't afford to spend anyway (in the case of a 75+ million dollar cap in 2 years), it's not the competitive disadvantage it was in other years, it just diminishes our financial advantage that a higher cap would bring.

I can live with that to get us out of a cap problem we're having only because of an artificially low 1 year cap figure.

**** it.

**** this shit. Instead of a tiny hit from Komi for two years, they're taking a big hit on Liles for six years??

****ing stupid. No defending this move.

Forget all that, make some money, watch BLUF next week, lots of NHLers in it. We are going to have a kick ass team next year. Kick ass. Be happy, we have an NHL goaltender now.
