Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Bull shit. Too many cops these days are absolute cowards. This was a skinny 18 year-old armed with a three-inch knife on an empty streetcar. Are you telling me a bunch or trained, armed police wouldn't be able to take him down with non-lethal force without one of them getting killed or seriously injured? The incident in Montreal, where their gutless puke cops unleashed a hail of gunfire at a homeless man with a small knife and ended up killing him and an innocent bystander also comes to mind.

agreed.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Man, I would never want to be a cop.

Every single thing you do is second-guessed and evaluated a thousand different ways when in reality you had a split second to react and address a dangerous and volatile situation.

Not to mention literally everything is recorded now.

not everything you do.

but maybe everything that results in a death, yes.

but there was no "split second" decisions needed here. Cops could have just waited outside the streetcar for as long as they wanted to.

I see this thrown around as a negative thing alot when it comes to these police videos and I just don't get it. As someone who is related to some cops, I completely understand the need for them to use force in dangerous situations. But at the same time, these guys have more power than just about anyone in our society and cell phones with cameras provide some cheques and balances.

I also find the "Just do what the police say and you won't get shot" comments a little disturbing. Cops are a bit like teachers: plenty of great ones, plenty of complete idiots who have no business deciding who needs to take a bullet. Protocols to be followed on the use of deadly force don't seem like such a bad idea to me.

One thing is forsure, for a group that is notorious for taking care of their own and justifying their right to use force, there sure are alot of officers coming out and saying this guy ****ed up.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I just want everyone to remember who the bad guy was in that situation - the guy with a knife on the streetcar.

That cop, even if he did overreact (with lethal consequences) might be a fantastic officer and the kind of guy you would sigh with relief if he responded to a call at your place.

The flash to judgement here - and in so many other places - is to vilify this officer as some trigger happy, power tripping meathead - and that's sad.

But...he killed a guy during a situation where he and his people had everything under control. The kid wasn't charging anyone, didn't have threatening body language...and 9 shots later, the kid is dead.

and tased, but he was probably already dead.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Random fact: we, as taxpayers, pay the officer that shot Sammy Yatin dead $106k per year.

Money well spent, right?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I am still kicking myself for letting the girl who introduced me to pancetta in all its glory get away.

don't be, she would likely have wanted to get married, then turned your testicles into a mangina, then dumped you for an alpha male and sued your for support

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I saw a different video tonight. He was CLEARLY down by the first three shots. Pause. Then 6 more......into someone already on the floor and absolutely no way he was a threat to anyone.

The other thing that this video showed is that there was no "reach" for anything. I thought that one for the excuses would be "I saw him reach for something", but in that video, he was facing them.

CAUTION: SHOOTING AND DEATH.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Don't they teach cops how to fight anymore?

He could have clubbed the knife out of his hand and had him wrapped up like a pretzel in seconds. Especially with all that backup.

Cops rarely do anything 1 on 1.

This cop belongs in jail.
