OT: American Politics

I'm actually disgusted (and it's ironic) that while they are severing ties with Iran, Harper is sitting down with Putin.

where was your disgust when your boy hopeychange sold out all our allies in eastern europe to "reset" with russia? you weren't disgusted then, why are you disgusted now?

But of course, you'll never know because it is all done in total secrecy (aside from them boasting about their murders when they feel it helps them politically) without any due process - not even a whiff of it. They brand you a "militant" and you and anyone around you, without any accusation beyond that (which, again, amounts to being male 18-35 in these areas), let alone an opportunity to defend yourself in a court of law, can be summarily executed. If a Republican was doing this, Dems would be screaming until they're blue in the face. In fact, they did just that over illegal wiretapping - tiddly winks next to this darkness. It's truly astounding listening to people defend these most egregious violations of every last principle of democracy, peace, human rights and civility.

meh, I might lean left on social issues and take umbrage at dishonest wars, but don't mistake me for a peacemonger. I'm guessing you probably have a problem with them going and nailing Osama without due process like they did, and I certainly don't. Hell, I want them to take action in Syria at this point, and only the balance sheet issues make me want them to hesitate.

Terrorists should be dealt with, and I doubt they're wasting millions of dollars in drone strikes to take out random 20yr old dudes in the desert.

This is the way I wanted terrorists dealt with from the start. No bombing of rock piles and idiotic land wars, but targeted takeouts of actual terrorists with the best technology in the world.

Actually, it's well-known that Iran has centrifuges and is attempting to create nuclear weaponry. UN investigators are now banned from regions in Iran because they found out about it.

Wasn't talking about that. The above is obvious. I'm referring to his made-up beliefs that Iran was killing Canadians inside Afghanistan.

I'm not mistaking you for a 'peacemonger'. This isn't about pacifism.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The unhidden agenda, item #13,854: Outsource foreign policy to Likud.

Not even a mention of breaking off diplomatic ties with Iran?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

we've talked about this on the other thread. i think it was the right move. iran has killed canadians. iran has a demonstrated history of threatening and kidnapping diplomats it doesnt like (see UK. see US). they are a global menace- jcy's defence of them notwithstanding. they are clearly bent on the destruction of one of our allies in the region. other close allies (US and UK) have taken a similar stance. i would think a very solid majority of canadians support this move.

President Obama was schmoozing his way around the sports bar Gator’s Dockside, chatting up families and posing for photos as part of his campaign bus tour of Florida on Saturday night, when he stopped at a table of 10 people, including several children.

“He was born in Hawaii,” one woman said, pointing to a blond boy down the table.

The president lit up and flashed the Hawaiian shaka hand sign, which the boy — Andre Wupperman, who will be 7 next week — returned.

“You were born in Hawaii?” Mr. Obama asked, then broke out into a smile. “You have a birth certificate?”

[QUOTETaliban leader, police link Iran to attacks in Afghanistan

By Bill RoggioFebruary 2, 2011

According to both the Afghan police and a recently captured Taliban commander, Iran is training and supporting the operations of the Taliban in southwestern Afghanistan.

A Taliban commander named Mullah Gul Ahmad, who led a group of 30 fighters and was captured recently by police in Nimroz province, said he was recruited in the eastern Iranian town of Zahedan, a known hub for Iranian Qods Force's operations in Afghanistan.

"I studied at a religious school in Iran where someone named Khaled provoked me to perform jihad against Americans," Ahmad said in a confession obtained by the Afghan interior ministry and aired on Afghan television two days ago. Ahmad claimed that he and his group fought in Helmand province after receiving training in Iran.

Sayed Mohammad Faqir Askar, a police chief in Farah province, said other Taliban fighters captured in the province have also admitted to training in Iran and being based in Iran.

"Some individuals who have been detained by our security forces have confessed that they have terrorist centers in border regions of Iran and they are trained in how to use weapons and lay mines," he told Tolo TV. "In fact, these terrorists are trained in Baluchistan area of Iran."

Another anonymous Afghan official said that both Iran and Pakistan are sponsoring terrorist groups in Farah.

Remembering Zahra Kazemi, the Iranian-Canadian Photo Journalist Killed by the
Fundamentalist Regime of Iran

Boston, MA- On July 10, 2003 the Iranian-Canadian Photo Journalist Zahra Kazemi died as a result of severe blow to the head, according to the doctors, after her arrest in Iran on June 23. She was arrested, reportedly raped, and tortured for taking pictures of a demonstration of the families of the political prisoners at the notorious Evin prison in Tehran.

Stephan Hachemi - Kazemi's only son in Montreal, pressed the Canadian government to get her body home for autopsy, however, the Iranian regime ordered her burial five days after her death to avoid autopsy.

The Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham called Kazemi's treatment " a flagrant violation of her rights under international human rights law and a breach of obligations that Iran owes to the international community."

Through International pressure, especially from the government of Canada and human rights organizations, the Iranian officials arrested two Intelligence Ministry agents and charged them with the murder. One agent was acquitted soon after and the other charged with “quasi intentional murder” which carries a sentence of 3 years and payment of money to Kazemi’s family.

The Women's Forum Against Fundamentalism (WFAFI) honors the memory of Zahra Kazemi and reminds the world community of the on-going inhumane treatments in Iran's prisons. The case is one of thousands of flagrant human rights violations by the fundamentalist regime in Iran, but it was Ms. Kazemi’s Canadian status that led to the international outcry. The Canadian government responded responsibly and sponsored a resolution against the Iranian regime in the UN General Assembly last fall.

Romney says he likes parts of Obamacare

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who promised early in his campaign to repeal President Barack Obama's health care overhaul, says he would keep several important parts of the overhaul.

"Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place," he said in an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." ''One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage."

Romney also said he would allow young adults to keep their coverage under their parents' health-insurance.

Those provisions have been two of the more popular parts of Obama's Affordable Care Act.

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan," Romney said. "And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people."

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I never defended Iran you ****ing moron. I said that they weren't involved in killing Canadian soldiers during our presence in Afghanistan and that Pakistan was a greater threat to global stability.

Idiot.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

JCY, remember Korea hates Iran because his best friend Israel does. Korea said once if Nutandyahoo says that Israel is being threatened, he won't care if the Nut won't show evidence, Israel says they're at risk, that is enough for him.

Korea should move to Israel, it is his true love.

yes, you did. you said they weren't a problem in the region and you rejected the facts when i placed them in front of you- that they support or are behind most of the bad apples in that region. that is the very definition of defending them.
