OT: CFL Thread

There's the easy way, there's the hard way and then there's the Roughrider way. Why do they have to make things so difficult on themselves.

Props to Lulay for pulling multiple rabbits out of the hat late in the fourth.

Well BC was playing good football at the end of the year. Riders have been up and down all season...lets hope the Riders are on the up now.

Unfortunately, a win in Calgary for the Riders or the Lions would be extremely difficult. If Sask starts the way they did today next week, they'll be down at least 3 majors by the half.

We'll see if the CFL ratings are as high with now the NFL games are on, plus the NHL games... they will go down pretty quickly outside Saskatchewan.

Its obvious the CFL is high in the summer since there is nothing interresting at TV at this time of the year...

Nonsense...the CFL ratings beat the NFL every time. CFL ratings are almost as high as Hockey Night in Canada, believe it or not.

Actually, the Grey Cup ratings are usually better than any single game of the Stanley Cup finals. They'd likely be a bit higher if the game was carried on CBC, which reaches 100% of the country, as opposed to TSN/RDS which is a cable-only service that in some areas requires the customer to subscribe to a premium package.

Even when the CFL was in dire straits, the Grey Cup game was a big TV ratings winner. During the decade when there was no team in Montreal, I rarely watched the CFL (since I had no vested interest in any team) but I never missed the Grey Cup.

In all fairness Wiseguy, that is just TSN/sportsnet ratings, it doesn't keep track of those of us with Ticket or who watch on the American stations.

I know this much if the Leafs beat us on Saturday and the Argos beat the Alouettes on Sunday, Wehave will be on suicide watch as there is nothing he hates more than losing to Toronto.

what? Rider fans are so blase about their team. Too much going on over there I suppose.

True, but if I am correct, CFL ratings do not go down when the NFL and NHL season starts, which was the original argument.

It's the crazy CFL paradox... many people decline to pay 40-60 bucks to see a CFL game live, perhaps thinking they are not paying to see the best football athletes. But apparently they tune in to watch the CFL on TV...and thats probably because the game itself is exciting and hard to ignore if you are a football fan in general.

CFL is very popular outside of Toronto and Vancouver.

Well I would include pretty well all of Ontario as a tough sell. Hamilton and Toronto both have difficulty selling tickets. Ottawa was never an easy sell either.

We are too sophisticated in the big cities to care about 2nd rate football

I haven't paid to see a CFL game since I don't know 1995.

Its more like there is stiff competition for the entertainment dollar in the bigger cities. However I am not sure what Vancouver's excuse is...

Admittingly, the people out there are a bit strange.... soccer, field hockey and rugby seem to get an inordinate amount of attention.

Field Hockey? nah, Rugby not much either. Soccer yeah

A large majority of field hockey and rugby players on Canada's national teams come from B.C. It could be due to the milder weather...

I spent three months in the Okanagan and was astounded by the popularity of a girls field hockey tournament. Parents, friends, etc came out in droves to see this.
