OT: Movies/TV Shows

Seymour-Hoffman >>> Joaquin Phoenix.

Not close.

Given how much the latter outshone the former in The Master, I would beg to differ. That's not even including the Academy Award Phoenix should have won for Walk the Line.

That would put them at a pair of piece, in addition to a couple additional nominations each.

DDL, Oldman, PSH are all on similar footing......Phoenix isn't in the same sport, let alone the same ballpark.

Daniel Day Lewis belongs on his own tier. He's the Bobby Orr / Wayne Gretzky of acting and until I see an effective argument made for a "1B" (ie. Mario Lemieux type) talent, he will occupy that precipice unchallenged.

The other three would belong to the next tier down with the Russell Crowes (his best acting roles were in LA Confidential and The Insider, where he didn't even win the Oscar), Denzel Washingtons, Gary Oldmans, and PSH's of the world.

I dig Edward Norton a ton too....but he's gone down a tier over the last 5 years or so.

PSH is the best due to his versatility, i agree with Zeke.

I know I'm not as exposed to as much cinema as a lot of the people posting in this thread...but doesn't PSH basically play either a surly or sneaky fat guy in all of his roles?

If we're talking versatility, Oldman >>> All

That's my biggest problem with PSH. So I don't understand all of this admiration over his "versatility." He's great at what he does but he's kind of similar to Leonardo DiCaprio in that he's constantly playing the same character over and over.
