OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Miner is not very much like Towers at all.

Disappointing we could only get the one run off him. For some reason in his career he's pitched extremely well against the Jays.

Two starters making their ML debuts tomorrow. Hopefully Romero is solid and the bats can get going again. At least we have a well rested and dominant pen.

Anyoen else irritated with no PH for Overbay vs a hard throwing lefty with 2 out and 2 on?....I'f im noty mistaken thats why we have Millar and Bautista

Cito gets a wee bit of leeway for not pulling his vets right away due to matchups.

But not much leeway - Overbay hasn't been able to hit lefties for 2 years now (while he's actually still damn good vs. righties).

We've got a bunch of righties on the bench - unless Overbay magically starts hitting lefties again, Cito better be prepared to pinch hit for him in that situation.

Yeah was waiting for Bautista to come up to bat there. He's been raking all spring as well as the WBC.

Need to push for the 3/4 win today. Both rookies on the mound so both teams can preach patience today. 12:37 start btw

At first I was frustrated, but then I realized--it's early in the season and he has to get Overbay going. Yanking him risks messing with his confidence, and since the Jays still have two more seasons of Overbay beyond 2009 (combined with the fact that any success they have this season might be predicated on a bounce back season from Overbay), it's probably a bad idea to take that chance in the third game of the season.

At the same time, 2008 was the first year in which Overbay really struggled against lefties. In fact, in 07 he actually hit lefties better than he hit righties. Really, his only real problem against LHP throughout his career has been his walk rate; he actually hits them decently enough (.272 BA, and while his power numbers are significantly lowered, he still boasts considerable gap power--his 2B rate is about the same against lefties and righties).

Besides, left handed hitters batted over .300 against Seay last yaer so it was a good opportunity for Overbay to gain a bit of steam.

And all that said, if it were a one or two run game I think Cito makes the change. But the Jays were at two outs, down 5-1... let Overbay try and work things out.

So we've got a 12:35 game this aft.

First time two 1st round picks have made their starting debuts vs. each other in MLB history.

Jays' Ricky Romero vs. Tigers' Rick Porcello

Bautista's in for Rolen, Barrett's in for Barajas.

the batting order stays the same aside from those direct swaps.

I'd liked Millar in for overbay too, just to get everyone a tocuh early on.

Maybe next game we see Millar and Mac

and Zeke you right that Overbay ab was pianful

Fantastic to see Lind and Snider continuing with the hot hands to begin the season. The Jays will need this type of production from their young bats if they are to succeed offensively in the AL East.

Cito and i think alike...Carlsson in to start the 7th

Very nice outing from Ricky Romero, his breaking stuff today was especially electric

As an aside, all he seemed to throw early on was the breaking pitches and the change. Barrett looked to get him to thorw the fastball more, and later in the game he did just that. If Ricky can get some confidence in the fastball i really like his chances to be effective this year

this is looking good.

Ricky Romero, Aaron Hill, Adam Lind, and Travis Snider doing most of the good work.

Love the new jays.
