OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Am I missing something on why people don't think Accardo will be back?

I really liked him when he was here, he did a good job filling in for BJ Ryan as the closer when he was out a few years ago and he did also win the PCL reliever of the year award this year.

The thing that has Accardo upset is that he claims general manager Alex Anthopoulos told him things would work out differently in 2010, the paper notes.

"I was lied to a lot last year, where I was told one thing and something else ended up happening," Accardo told the paper. "That didn't sit well with me, but I turned (over) a (new) leaf and we talked and he told me everything's going to change, and really things haven't changed."

Accardo, 28, didn't help himself early in the season when he ended up with an 0-1 record and an 8.10 ERA in his first five outings for the Jays.

"His stuff might be better this year," 51s pitching coach Dave LaRoche told the paper. "He can get frustrated, but I try to remind him he's not just pitching for Toronto, he's pitching for all the rest of the teams, too, because there are scouts at every game, almost."

The Eastern League playoffs kicked off on Wednesday night, with one divisional series starting in Trenton between the Yankees' affiliate there and the Blue Jays' New Hampshire affiliate, with an outstanding matchup of starting pitching prospects.

Kyle Drabek came to Toronto in the Roy Halladay trade this past offseason and ranked No. 40 on my Top 100 prospects coming into the year, but Wednesday night he brought the best stuff I've seen (or heard of) from him, with two plus-plus pitches and an aggressive approach. He started out 93-97 in the first inning and was 91-96 by the end of his outing, hitting 97 at least three times over the first two frames. His power curveball at 84-86 was a big league out pitch, with depth and a very sharp break -- and he threw it for strikes in addition to burying it for swings and misses.

He barely used -- or needed -- his straight changeup, but it's also not yet on par with the other two pitches. He worked to both sides of the plate and overpowered most of the hitters in Trenton's weak lineup. Drabek takes a long stride toward the plate and generates great arm speed from it, although he doesn't rotate his hips much and is off the rubber very quickly. I'm more concerned by his tendency to throw across his body when going to his glove side because of how he cuts himself off in his landing. Those two pitches do give him ace potential that I haven't seen from him before, although the lack of a solid third offering and the minor delivery issues probably give him a realistic ceiling just below that.
Adeiny Hechavarria is slick at shortstop, but there's a lot of style there relative to the amount of substance, and he muffed a routine groundball in the laziest of ways -- he failed to come in, setting his feet and waiting for it to reach him, and an unexpected hop put the ball in his gut instead of in his glove. At the plate, he's got a long swing with a big finish and showed poor pitch recognition, but he deserves some extra slack there as a first-year player in the U.S. who's already in Double-A and is listed at 21. I see above-average run, throw, and probably field tools, but the bat is a work in progress.

He's only 5 RBI behind Miggy for the ML lead too. Unfortunately Miggy has all 3 Tiger's RBIs tonight, but with a strong finish he could definitely catch him. That would be quite something... HR and RBI leader.

And what happened to Cecil tonight? I'm in DC and can't watch any of the damn games, but he's been rock solid recently. Damn Rays.

J.Bats: 45hr
V.Wells: 27hr
A.Hill: 23hr
A.Lind: 21hr
J.Buck: 18hr
L.Overbay: 18hr
A.Gonzalez: 17hr

I believe 7 would have tied the MLB record for most 20hr guys on one team (I believe the 2000 Jays tied the league mark).

Looks like we'll get 6.

Yeah, he's not gonna be MVP if the Jays finish 4th in the division.

But man is he good.

I really, really want to win this one. Losing after this kind of comeback would be too deflating. A win would be a HUGE confidence booster.
