The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

So is there an order to this draft tomorrow or can Francis mess with Bergevin and leave the Montreal selection for last?
I think they've historically tried to draft the big marketing-friendly name first, as if he's a first overall pick.

Price would be pissed to be #32, I think.

Analytics say:....ehhhhh not really.
Eye test says yeah, by a shit ton too.

Granted just a comparison between youtube highlights, but Garland's tenacity and aggressiveness looks like first line material. McCann looks like second or third line talent.

How much to resign Garland?

his agent claims that he's not looking for "Keller money" which is 7.15 but that's all that's really been mentioned. You can always bridge him for 2 years on the cheap if you wanted to but at that point don't waste the prospect value in trade acquisition and just sign Tatar short term.

Sign good players for cheaper and longer. I'm not worried about term if you're getting a big talent. It's why I didn't care about Willy, Matty, or Marner, or even Tavares getting their money. If they're young enough and good enough, that contract ends up looking cheap in the later years of the deal, just like Rielly's has.

Garland has been the 15th most productive RW in the show over the last 2 years (lol...Kapanen, 14th. Willy 9th, Mitch 4th for comparison).

McCann has been the 28th most productive LW over the same period (Landeskog 29th...)

They're both really good players. I don't want to give up top prospects and then a market value contract to either.

Would be nice to find another “McCann” type deal where we move depth prospects for someone on a decent contract.

Not as good as McCann but still maybe pretty good is Foegele from Carolina and he probably wouldn't cost much. He wants out so that he can get a better opportunity to play in someone's top 6

McCann-Matthews-Marner
Foegele-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Bonino-Mikky
Simmonds-XXXXXX-Spezza

Would be faster, deeper and better than what we started last season with. Let Robertson compete for Engvall or Mikky's job in training camp. Even if he doesn't break camp with big team, if he lights up the AHL he'll get a look in the 2nd half and could be on the playoff roster.

These names still just look weak on the top two lines. Feels like we always have 2/3 of a killer line, but always one weak link.

It's why I want to see a Landeskog type deal so badly. I want to see what Matty does when he has stars on both flanks, and not just a hand-foot transplant success story.

You and Zeke are both on team Bonino

Honestly, spend to get a Garland type, or sign a Landeskog type, and then fill in the rest with kids or bargain guys who slip through the cracks.

Let's add to the top end, and then see what guys like Robertson and Amirov can do to fill the holes.

You like JT with 4 more years

McCann has produced at the same rate as Landeskog over the last 2 years, and he's done it while not playing next to Mackinnon and Rantanen.

Landeskog is not a star.

Foegele kinda sucks.

Good 3rd liner who has some of the tools to be more. Hands for feet disease though, yeah. But okay size, above average skater, goes to the net, good on the forecheck, etc. Solid player that won't be expensive this year and might be good enough to play in the top 6. Cheap, low risk, moderate reward.

It will cost you Robertson or Amirov (along with something else good) to get you Garland.

Landeskog is not a star.
Agree to disagree, or disagree to agree, but one of the two.

I'm honestly not familiar with McCann's game. But as of right now, and hopefully after the draft, we have him, so there's no point comparing him to anyone.

I do think Landeskog is kinda a star, not like some superstar, but he brings every element to a top line, including some grit and toughness that we could use. I don't think I'd put McCann there and just hope for the best. I really doubt Pittsburgh would literally basically gift him to us and that Seattle would just pass him over if he was on the level that you think he is. On the assumption that he's not, I want a big name to play with Matty so we don't have yet another year of having a guy on his wing that the opposition can kinda ignore.
