TML? More like FML, amirite? Yet Another Off Season Thread

I mean the other option is that you don't sign Jack, get rid of Mrazek and go balls deep on a 32 year old Kuemper. He's the only very good goalie available. But there are risks and their backup will have to be cheaper.

We aren’t getting that for Muzzin.
That’s basically the Lindholm trade and everyone said Boston overpaid
Lindholm was a rental. Extremely different circumstance. It's almost the same package the leafs traded for muzzin when he had 1 year left on his deal. If you want to remove the 2nd or B prospect to account for aging have at it. But the bones of the deal will be similar.

That they promptly extended for 8 years

did they not extend him for 8 years?
Doesn't matter. He wasn't under contract next year. Ducks were moving on from him so either they trade him for stuff or they lose him. With Muzzin they don't have to trade him. They're in the drivers seat.

1. I don’t see it
2. If he is that valuable an asset, why are we trading him?

I wouldn't trade him if they can't get a package like that. He's really good and arguably their most or second most important defensive d. I cringe at the thought of losing him. But he's aging, will save some cash (especially if you sign Gio for 3-4m less), and still has enough value left after a great playoff to be able to get a decent return. Wait too long and he may be worthless. But unless you can get a nice return for him, you keep him because they would miss him dearly.

I do think you're underestimating the demand for a top 4 physical d around the league though. It's literally on everyone's wishlist every offseason and deadline.

You are correct, he did show his age this season. and therein lies the problem and the reason you won’t get that return in the off-season. Trade deadline, maybe? But why are we trading him at the deadline if we are competing?

I removed the B prospect or 2nd rounder for you. Do you think a 1st and a 2nd or B prospect is a lot for a top 4 physical d with two years of term? A guy who did a fabulous job against the two time defending champs in a playoff series? If so, why? At all?

A lot of it also depends on who you are trading him to.
are you wanting a top 10 pick? Or content with a 25-32 pick? Why is a team with a top 10 pick trading for an aging d-man?
You might be right that he has that value but I personally don’t see it.

Or course I'm not speaking about a top 10 pick. It would be a late one for a team with cup aspirations. That's not a large price to pay for a guy of his caliber.

Ultimately I think this team has the most potential with Sandin and Lilly contributing.

so I don’t think you bring Muzz and Gio back. IMO Gio is a downgrade. His mobility is lacking at this point.

it depends on what you can do with the cap savings. Spend it on an impact player as good as Muzz? Yeah probably. Pay Mikheyev? Nah.

The leafs depth players lack attention to detail. How many missed chip ins, dumb penalties, missed assignments, etc did tampas depth guys take?

mover the past two years we’ve seen games choked away by turnovers by guys like galy and kerfoot, dumb penalties, missed assignments.

Meanwhile nick Paul was a menace for the leafs all series and scored all the goals in game 7.

I let mikky walk and trade kerfoot in whatever trade you can where your don’t need to absorb $$.

they need that $ for a real goalie, however you find him.
