Interesting comment in today's N&O. Seems Murphy makes the team by way of his power play skills, not because he outplayed any of the other d-men.

That doesn't mean he is going to play though. There are going to be 2 healthy scratches on the blueline every game if we really keep all 8 of our DMen. I'm taking Peter's comments to indicate that Murphy might be a candidate for healthy scratches if he doesn't pick up him game. Of course, after a while, if Murphy isn't good enough to be in the lineup he should go back to Charlotte again so he's playing rather than watching.

If Murphy gets farmed out, it almost sounds like both Jordan or Rissannen could be just as worthy of a call-up as Murphy based on training camp performance. Murphy sounds like he has had every opportunity to grab a top 6 spot this year and has not really wowed anyone.

If he can't defend as well as Gleason or Harrison, he's not really of much value to this team. The Canes don't have a stud to pair him with.

And given Gleason's numbers in the pre season thus far, if Murph can't defend as well as that guy then he ought to just hang 'em up and try baseball or something.

Per Canes pre-season gameday lineup for tonight: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=732870

Tlusty-E. Staal-Semin
Skinner-Rask-Lindholm
Gerbe-McClement-LaRose
Boychuk-Nash-Malone

Sekera-Faulk
Hainsey-Murphy
Harrison-Gleason

Ward
Khudobin

Ward will start. Dwyer out with lower body injury, Terry healthy extra along with Bellemore and Liles

That's one way to ease yourself back into game shape. In your first game in over a year go out and get a boarding major and game misconduct before the 4 minute mark. 1:08 in ice time and call it a night.

By the way, anyone at the game notice the change is direction the in house entertainment that resulted in Ron the ref being canned? I'm sure it must be pretty different.

Staal the elder is playing tonight! He was just out there, 6 minutes left in the second, poking at the puck!

Looks like the Sabres just showed us we are going to have to suck a lot more to contend for McDavid or Eichel

Nah, don't bet on it. They maybe playing possum.

My hap hazard analysis of the players wen through wine glasses.
Boychuk could be so much better. Why does he flounder at the NHL level? Maybe he follows el capitano.
The jury is still out on Cward as he really wasn't tested. Staal the elder did play and I guess was good in the face off circle. I did see him wave his magic wand at pucks a few times as they passed by him and watched him lose the puck as he tried to enter the offensive zone. That #16 kid is a winner. He works well with, well, just about anybody. Semin looked pretty good.
Nash looked better than I expected. The D didn't look too bad except on the one score by the slugs when they all went in the corner. Speaking of corners and boards, they were better but still need lots of work on winning puck battles. And this was the slugs.
And iOS 8 is really a POS. Has Apple ever gone down hill.
