I was high on Hutson since the draft.Habsy and Geeman are excited about Beck. Nothing wrong with that. Some of those guys develop. Besides, the Hutson types are kind of rare

The numbers Hutson put up as a freshman is nothing short of incredible. Very curious how he’ll translate his game in the pros.

League won’t allow up to win 3 lotteries in a rowIf Mack can develop his goal celebration, they will call it the "Celebrini"
He’s already committed for another year in collegeI was worried he might of got crushed in that pile up
First he needs to get to 175 pounds , leave him in the college one more year

They found Hutson. That was a good second round. Had they taken him at 33 and Beck at 62 people wouldn't be saying anything.Beck is a complete 200 foot player
I understand some wont take Beck 33rd overall because you should try to find the next Aho in the second round
The success rate of drafting that stud is like 2% over the last 10-15 years
A team may go an entire decade with zero contribution in that round
Nothing wrong with drafting a solid top 9 player like Beck or Lek , they are very useful.
Habs have been atrocious in round 1 but equally worse developing their own middle 6 players
I think Beck has top 6 upside and play in any situation ....PK, PP or defending a lead late in the game
Solid IQ , remember he lost a full year of development due to Covid
No doubt in my mind he goes top 20 in last years draft in a normal season .
Yup , glad we got bothThey found Hutson. That was a good second round. Had they taken him at 33 and Beck at 62 people wouldn't be saying anything.
Sometimes those singles and doubles get you a first or second round+ in trades like LekWell, that's the thing. Do you value picks that, if they hit, are singles and maybe doubles? Because drafting the Jacob de la Rose types aren't always a guarantee to make it. And if they do make it, it's very rarely at 19/20 years old, it's usually around when they're 21/22. So you pick a player with low upside and have 3 years to wait for him... with the hope that he's good enough to make it.
I can get a player like Owen Beck literally every year if I need one, whether that's by trade or in free agency. And the funny thing about it? They'll probably cost less than what Jacob de la Rose or Owen Beck cost, ie an early 2nd round pick. Hell, some will cost just money. And I won't even need to wait to usual 3-4 years.
The Sebastian Aho types, there's usually one or two available / draft in the late 1st, 2nd/3rd round. If a team is able to hit on that player? Homerun. And you won't be able to get players like that unless they hit free agency in their late 20s, and all of the value in those players is lost.
Everyone talks about building through the draft, but championships are built with getting homerun picks beyond the lottery. Why's Bawstun been good for 20 years non stop? Simple: Bergeron in the 2nd, Krejci in the 2nd, Lucic in the 2nd, Marchand in the 3rd, Pastrnak in the late first. Yeah, they got Chara as a free agent, but they'd be the first to say that they never expected Chara to turn out to be as good as he was.
