OT: Soccer thread

Think Perisic might be the superior LW in this system over Son, in fact. 😬

Ange changed tactics a bit at half and has clearly called for more balls over the top, to attack how narrow United were playing us….has made a world of difference for Sonny.

@zeke Udogie nutmegged someone with a heel kick, inside the box to set up Son for a SOG. 🤣

he’s marked Antony brilliantly all day too.

Richarlison off, presumably to move Son to striker and Perisic in to LW.

I trust Postecoglou enough to get him whoever he believes fits his system best…but man does Brennan Johnson’s footballref page not in-still confidence.

He is a solid dribbler tho with a quality shot, so prob an upgrade over Kulusevski long term….especially if Ange thinks he’d get more out of him with our tactics.

Inter and all their new guys looked pretty darn good in game 1. I still don't trust the new keeper compsred to Onana but they do seem to have built a much deeper team as a result.

After a season they made the CL finals and deserved to win....they went out and replaced a full half the squad. Pretty bold. That's mostly 2nd unit guys, with only 1 full time starter (the keeper) and 2 sometimes starters lost, but it's still a pretty huge upheaval. But if Sommer can be solid in goal this team could be sognificantly better than last yewr.

“Tottenham Hotspur will try to secure the signing of Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson with a cash-plus-player deal (Tom Roddy writes).

Forest are looking for a fee of about £40 million for the Wales forward, who is also wanted by West Ham United. Chelsea had considered making a move for the 22-year-old this summer but have withdrawn their interest after it was understood that the player’s preference would be a move to Tottenham.

Forest have already rejected a £35 million offer for Johnson from Brentford
this summer, a deal that would have broken the west London club’s transfer record. Forest have struggled to land the transfer targets intended to strengthen Steve Cooper’s squad this summer but are resigned to the likelihood that Johnson, who scored ten goals for them last season, will leave.

Tottenham will look to exchange fringe members from their squad to convince Forest to complete the move, which would help to cut the size of Ange Postecoglou’s large group of about 35 players. Forest are keen on adding centre backs and Davinson Sánchez, Tottenham’s 27-year-old Colombia defender, is one of the possible figures to be involved in a deal.

Tottenham will suggest other options but are also willing to complete a cash-only deal. They are looking to reinvest the money made through the £94.5 million sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and want to add goals and pace to Postecoglou’s attacking options.”

Brentford have some phenomenal scouting & are heavy into analytics, so I’m glad to hear Johnson was someone they were willing to break their transfer record for, in an attempt to land him.

I’ve warmed a fair bit to the idea of Brennan, since watching a half dozen videos on him and he is a technically gifted dribbler, can beat his man, and has a great shot from outside the box, to keep teams honest. Still a tough swallow giving up £40m for him (when Orban is only €30m) but if it’s £30-33m and a player swap, I’m down for it.

He only just turned 22, so still room to develop some more as well, especially under Ange.

Not a massive fan of Richarlison so far

He’s getting way too much stick from media, but his lack of goals + how demonstrably pouty he is when things don’t go his way, definitely makes for a terrible look.

The pundits give Kane more love now, than they ever did when he was with us….every chance Richarlison gets that he doesn’t bury they claim Kane would 100% have scored, lol.

Funny to me seeing Ange subbing out his entire midfield at 72 mins, only up 2-0….I think in four years of Mourinho and Conte, they did that a combined 0 times.

Cool to see that kind of confidence placed in the squad guys, giving them some ownership of todays win, but also getting Maddison & co some valuable rest for the cluster of games ahead.

I think he has a case of trying to do too much. Skill is obviously there.
