OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

The Gaus trade sucks even more with this move. We didn’t need that return. We did need Gaus in the rotation to squeak into the playoffs if we’re not selling everyone.

I thought Nimmala was supposed to basically be a can’t miss stud. This surprised me.
I'd say the upside is very high.. great defense and 30-HR power. But I wouldn't say "can't miss", there is significant risk here.

Also, just looking at the numbers this year, and they're good but not great. He is still really young though.

Yeh Nimmalla isnt cant miss neither a lock to stay at SS or hit enough at an MLB level. I buy that the power is there, but not the contact necessarily.

I also expect more names out the door, Soriano had nothing to do with 2026

It feels like every other team lands big names without dipping into even their top 5 prospects. We just gave up our #2. Might mean we just don’t draft as well or something, and it does feel like our pool is shallower than others.

Nimmala is high risk for sure. He’s athletic and toolsy and young enough that you have to excuse his lack of dominance in the minors. But prospects like this flame out more often than not. If you have a chance to turn that into an arm like Soriano, you take it.

This is part of the re-tool, this is good. Now bring in a couple of upside prospects and the deadline will have been a success.

Bateman being LHH makes him an I’ll fit as a Straw replacement. He joins the glut of imperfect LHH OF4 sorts in our org, I can squint and see him as a no power string side cheap platoon for Varsho, but he needs a friend and the LF better be a monster cause SS is a dead stick and I don’t love our DH options

we did have a couple of weak drafts a few years back, but I'd say our pool is pretty deep right now. Also SP's with years of control left are expensive, there aren't that many on the market and the trade deadline isn't over yet. A few more high-end prospects will be moved this afternoon.

It was like 15-20 with Nimmalla in it, and it's going to plunge into the mid 20's now considering we were top heavy and had no first round pick

i didn't mean to suggest we have a top 5 system or anything, but I wouldn't say top-heavy either. Our list goes deep into the teens with guys who have at least some intrigue. It's not a bad group overall.

I'd say after Parker, Nimmalla, King, Perry, Sanchez, and Stanifer it drops off kinda violently, like Keys/Arias/Tiedemann isnt a very good back end top 10, McAdoo is top 15.
