The ****ing Pre-Season/Training Camp Thread (2019/20)

Aside from everything else good with Mikheyev, this is his first time on the small ice and he can't speak English. Impressive.

I'd really like to see Willy add more variety to that rush up the wing. Toss a shoulder fake and keep going, take it deeper into the zone with speed and see if you can get around the net to wait for Auston and Johnny to catch up to the play, etc. It would even make that hard stop more effective, at least the defender has some shit to think about.

Honestly I don't remember us ever looking this good game in game out in a preseason before.

Marincin may have solidified his spot tonight. Goat too (if it was in doubt).

Tima probably not though, with all of petan shore agostino coming on hard.

Agreed, I didn't like the line tonight and Nylander especially wasn't good. Which is a first this preseason that the line didn't dominate.

Been harping on this for a while now. He pulls that turn back 95% of the time minimum.

Dubas basically cleared out the dross (including on the bench) and ... voila, they can move the puck out of their own end.

Mikheyev 3gms, 14:03, 56.2cf%, 65.3xgf%
Moore 2gms, 12:28, 64.3cf%, 71.3xgf%

Very good, especially with moore in there instead of guys like aberg.

Spezza 2gms, 10:11, 82.7cf%, 88.9xgf%
Gauthier 2gms, 10:51, 76.1cf%, 80.1xgf%

I mean, you just can't argue with that. That's called earning your spot.

Timashov 2gms, 9:05, 67.8cf%, 67.7xgf%
Petan 3gms, 11:23, 60.9cf%, 74.0xgf%
Agostino 3gms, 12:13, 51.9cf%, 60.1xgf%
Shore 3gms, 12:11, 50.8cf%, 55.9xgf%

Tima and petan have both been great, and both are waiver risks, so I think I'm finally leaning towards them despite liking Ago and Shore quite a bit.

Gaudet 3gms, 11:50, 51.9cf%, 60.2xgf%
Read 3gms, 11:18, 55.9cf%, 59.8xgf%
Aberg 3gms, 12:06, 49.1cf%, 50.6xgf%

Gaudet and read legit impressed, while aberg was a complete flop.

Brooks 2gms, 10:53, 38.2cf%, 49.0xgf%
Bracco 2gms, 8:43, 41.0cf%, 40.3xgf%
Engvall 2gms, 9:28, 33.4cf%, 32.0xgf%

Just terrible stuff from these kids, which is especially disappointing from bracco, who may just not be a prospect.

Korshkov 2gms, 10:35, 46.4cf%, 67.7xgf%
Elynuik 2gms, 9:26, 51.2cf%, 62.3xgf%

These 2 big kids actually made an impression, even though they're likely never prospects.

Kossila 1gms, 3:34, 55.9cf%, 32.8xgf%
Clune 1gms, 10:31, 71.2cf%, 60.4xgf%
Archibald 1gms, 10:40, 49.6cf%, 63.9xgf%

Whatever.

Rielly 3gms, 21:00, 57.5cf%, 68.4xgf%
Ceci 3gms, 20:58, 58.9cf%, 66.7xgf%

Awesome.

Muzzin 2gms, 15:50, 63.7cf%, 65.7xgf%
Barrie 2gms, 15:08, 59.4cf%, 63.3xgf%

Awesome.

Sandin 3gms, 14:43, 66.4cf%, 61.4xgf%
Marincin 2gms, 13:54, 68.2cf%, 65.2xgf%

Awesome.

Top 6 looks pretty clearcut to me.

Gravel 2gms, 17:00, 48.9cf%, 68.1xgf%
Schmaltz 2gms, 14:50, 52.4cf%, 64.7xgf%

Both showed some really good stuff but obvious flaws. But should help at some point.

Rubins 2gms, 11:31, 66.3cf%, 70.8xgf%
Liljegren 3gms, 13:44, 56.5cf%, 59.5xgf%

Numbers agree with me that both these kids were pretty darn good this camp. Lilly will be up at some point, while Rubins might have a chance to to be something.

Harpur 3gms, 12:36, 47.5cf%, 46.7xgf%
Holl 2gms, 16:48, 38.5cf%, 48.7xgf%

Just horrible. Pray we never see them.

Kivihalme 1gms, 14:52, 73.1cf%, 76.9xgf%

Underrate nhl debut for him. Wish he got more games in.

Overall that's a thing of beauty - everyone is earning their spots on the roster and then some, and the top half of the lineup has been funny dominant.

What a low stress end to camp - as long as Sandin is on the team none of the other borderline decisions can bother me much.

Thanks for this.

Initially, I thought this was just for tonight, given how lopsided the numbers are for so many players. Something, something preseason but those are very encouraging numbers and they align nicely with the eye test.

Perhaps most impressive in all of this is that a lot of these guys are playing together for the first time and many under a new system.

Bracco had a terrible showing. Looked bad most of his shifts. I can't say I was disappointed, as I have had fairly dim expectations of him for while. But you'd hope to see a lot better than this at this stage.

Ceci has been a really nice surprise but so too has Marincin. The guy just looks way better out there and not nearly as awkward as in the past. I'm sure it helps to be playing with Sandin, but credit where it is due.

That's the funny thing about blueliners. It's hard to write them off because, while not usual, some of them do come around and figure it out post-25 years of age. Just preseason but he looks like he's finally got it.

Apparently Dubas only found out about the Matthews incident from Twitter. IMO, this is completely unacceptable from the Matthews camp, and I believe you guys should not only not give him the captaincy, but perhaps even consider trading him. While I don't approve of his conduct, perhaps a swap for the young son of a former TML veteran would be in the best interest of both clubs?
