Fantasy Baseball Rules Changes & Deadlines

I've fixed the order...was tricky as **** with all the trades, but looks like it's right. Only the top 4 in rounds 2-5 changed, so if you have a pick make sure it lines up...

A reminder guys to make sure your shit is in order before tomorrow at midnight. I'll be kicking off the draft on Saturday with my pick.

- Looks like JaysCyYoung still has 41 players on both his posted list, and in Fantrax.
- Montana has 40 players on his posted list, 38 in Fantrax.

If you haven't already done so, every team needs to double-check their posted list, and players in Fantrax, to ensure they are exactly the same. Failure to do so could possibly result in the loss of a draft pick. And most definitely, a boot to the head.

Draft starts Saturday. So why don't we set the roster freeze deadline Friday night, at midnight? No moves allowed after that point. As mentioned, by that point the lists posted in the thread here, should be an exact match with the players you have in Fantrax. Once the draft begins, the max # of minor league slots available per team will rise from 15 to 25. Also, once the draft begins, the "roster freeze" will be lifted and teams can again make trades.

We still need to decide on the exact draft procedure. If a team selects an unprotected player, do they have to add them to their 20 protected players list, and drop a protected player? Can teams temporarily go above 20? Can they add a player, and drop one of their unprotected players? Would the guy they just drafted, then be unprotected? Deckie and HP (and anyone else with a thought on the issue), what say you?

This would be easy if we didn't have any un-protected players.. just sayin. We had an issue in the hockey league where someone's list wasn't accurate for example. No benefit IMO to keeping them on our team at all... (*steps down off of soapbox*)

I'd say do the same thing in the hockey league. You can just add guys without effecting your protected lists.

After the draft when the guys are added in fantrax we can fix our rosters up.

I think we should just go through the draft and as we draft we simply add them to our roster on Fantrax ourselves. If you have to drop someone I'm sure most would drop there unprotected guys first so there wouldn't be an issue there, and any minor leaguers can go straight into that teams roster as the minor league amount will be at 25.

There may be some issues that arise but the draft is on here so we'll have time to fix that as we go along.

Yeah I don't know why you'd drop your unprotected guys... if nobody uses a pick on them then you keep them. If you don't want them then go ahead and drop them.

you guys are missing the point. Why do we have any unprotected players? What purpose does it fit and how does it relate to anything 'real world'?

It was especially cumbersome when some people had 7 unprotected, then had to drop 2. Seems like a completely arbitrary rule. 'You must drop 2', but it's okay with 5.

I don't see the point and I'm probably going to keep harping about it until you guys give in - That or until I win this league. Which of course is doubtful, so here I go back on my soapbox..

Would it really be that terrible to drop the unprotected? Would it really be all that bad? Would it not be easier to determine who's on a roster, avoid mistakes, etc? Is there any correlation to what happens in real life?

The reason 5 is okay but 7 isn't is because you can't use the DL to carry extra players through the off season. So you get your 20 protected, 15 prospects and 5 unprotected.

Personally I'd prefer that we could just carry everyone over and only drop players when you draft new players... but people seemed to favour having 5 unprotected in order to promote movement. While I'd prefer it to be different, this is how it is... so be it.

I understand the rule. I just think it has no real life correlation which is what this league is all about. The unprotected all suck anyways

If no one selects them you keep them. They are your players.

This.

Not sure why the concept is so hard to understand. You don't drop them because they're still your players. It's a rule designed to promote a little extra player movement, and a little extra strategy during the draft.

What are the details on the draft? What time does it start, how long per pick, is it on here or on fantrax? I'll be in and out for most of the day and want to make sure that I'm not holding anytihng up.

Sid.

Draft starts Saturday, basically as soon as Deckie makes the first pick. Also, roster freeze at midnight. Teams need to have their finalized 40-man rosters posted here that exactly match the players they have in Fantrax by that time.

Offline draft done here. We usually use a 24-hour clock for offline drafts, especially for the first round. Could reduce that to 12 hours or so in subsequent rounds, depending on how fast things are moving. Someone suggested teams add players in Fantrax in addition to posting it in the thread here, I think that makes sense. I guess if teams select an unprotected player from another team, they would include the name of their own unprotected player they are dropping in the same post. And make that same add/drop in Fantrax.
